Congressman Tom Perriello from Virginia said you can bring your opinions to his town hall meetings, but you cannot bring political signs inside regardless of what they say.
Recently, Perriello town hall goers were greeted outside with a sign that read: To ensure a pleasant atmosphere for all attendees, no signs will be permitted inside the town hall meeting.
Perriellos people insist that the sign ban is about encouraging free speech, not limiting it. They also claim it will make the meetings less distracting.

Why, Tom — because they remind you of how far you’re behind your opponent?

I bet there will be a lot of pro-Perriello signs available inside for supporters.

hmmm. that free speech thing again.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

"Perriello town hall goers were greeted outside with a sign that read: To ensure a pleasant atmosphere for all attendees, no signs will be permitted inside the town hall meeting. "
As the Church Lady would say, "Now, isn't that Special?".
You see, on video it would easy to edit out verbal comments, but they have a hard time removing all those signs from the video...thus, banning signs means simply that nothing NEGATIVE gets on TV.
Oh, And they should be told that people don't attend town hall meetings for the "PLEASANT ATMOSPHERE"...they attend to demand that their representative do his/her freakin' job.

The “no signs inside” rule is fine IF — and ONLY if — this “Town Hall Meeting” is being held on PRIVATE property, AND the property Owner agrees to the rule.
IF, however, this meeting is being held on PUBLIC property, then Mr. Congresscritter has NO say in the matter; he can only express a preference, not set a rule.
Of course, he could decline to appear, unless his preference is agreed to by all. He wouldn’t be the first Beltway Bigwig to cut of his own nose to spite his face.

Look, if he forbids ALL signs, then that is fine as far as I am concerned. Then the pissing match between whose sign is seen by the inevitable tv cameras is a moot point.
More important and dangerous are the “Melissa Bean” tactics seen on YOUTUBE. That fascist had a town hall meeting and then had a “credit card” specialist make a presentation—and wanted people to TURN OFF their cameras because of “personal and embarassing information” people might share with the so-called expert.
On top of that bizarre request, MELISSA BEAN the fascist had a THUG come and tower over people who were asking pointed and aggressive questions of her.
I guaran-damn-tee you, if such tactics were used by ANY REPUBLICAN in the race, the NETWORK TELEVISION NETWORKS would be leading with “intimidation tactics by Republicans!”

Who the hell is he to ban anything! Did a new law get passed? He works foe us! I can see an employee now, setting the rules and tone of his evaluation meeting. The nerve.

but you cannot bring political signs inside regardless of what they say. Dims are getting entirely too comfortable "dictating" to us, regardless of the violation of OUR Constitutional Rights.
