This is not a joke. The bloody organ keys that played themselve3s scared me so much I cried for hours. (I was pretty young.)

Thanks guys. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one freaked out by the Wizard of Oz.

Many of the movies everyone has mentioned were geared to adults or a lot of them were definitely marketed as horror or scary movies. Wizard was held out as a movie for children. Of course, years ago there were no movie ratings like we have today, so our parents thought it was safe for us kids. While most older children could handle Wizard, really small children probably shouldn’t see it.

My older, more “sophisticated” brother (he’s about 2 years older than I) teased me mercilessly about my fear of Wizard. He always did love creepy movies and tv. He is a longtime fan of Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. Today I think Twilight Zone was genius, but to this day, I still can’t watch the old Outer Limits.

Friday Night Creature Feature was awesome! Never been more scared than the first time I saw Frankenstein. Karloff was terrifying!

Thanks for the memories...

Not bad effects for an early 60’s movie...at least from what I remember.

The Japanese film “Rodan” which came out in the fifties scared the bejabbers out of me. I was only about seven at the time, but I had nightmares of the monster sneaking out from under my bed (where all monsters like to bide their time) for a year or more. I saw the movie thirty years later on tv and laughed at the cornball monster that had scared me so bad as a child.

I always thought that the appearance of “The Master” was overshadowed by James Mason’s acting ability.

"The Thing"

Some film and/or culture critics made note of the scientist in the film who wanted to love the creature instead of properly disposing of James Arness. They thought the scientist represented naive liberals who wanted to make peace with communism instead of driving a stake through its heart. Or electrocuting it.

Planet of the Vampires

Scared the heck out of me when the dead crewmen came back to life. The fact that I wasn’t supposed to be watching it helped.

Off subject but I see a few Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans here. Thursday, August 19 they take on the cult classic “Reefer Madness” in theaters. It looks like a limited release.
