We were kids and one night couldn’t sleep, so we turned on the tv and me, my brother, and my dad watched ‘Night of the Living Dead’ on a local NYC station. This was the days before cable. We had never seen it before. It even included friendly reminders that it was a dramatization, which even as a youngster I thought was very funny.

I was transfixed. It was a scary, scary movie. But fun! I think the circumstances of watching it for the first time contributed to my affection for the film, to this day.

Do yourself a favor and watch this (all 9 parts) on YouTube. It'll purge your scary memories (of the Mole People, at least; you'll still be terrified of John Agar).

"The Monster of Piedras Blancas" had pretty good shock value to a kid watching late at night. When the creature walks through the door holding the disembodied head...yikes!

Yeah, I know, the monster ("Eddie") is a rip-off of the Creature From The Black lagoon. Here he is striking a bit of a Shakespearean pose:

Alas, poor Pedro...

Yikes, I forgot about The Creature from the Black Lagoon! I was scared to death to go over the bridge in our town on the way to school!

Oh yeah, "Screaming Skull" was the one where the producers offer you a free coffin if you die from fright due to just how scary it is! LOL... Of course, Servo tries to bilk them for a coffin only to be charged $100s for shipping...

The Hunchback of Notre Dame.....Laughton’s Quasimodo still shakes me up and the entire film smacked of the ugliness of a society out of control and run by man’s darker, nihilistic side...very disturbing.

Yup, dat’s him. It’s amazing how childhood memories store up weird stuff. I’ve been meaning to watch it on NetFlix.....

Good one, but the scenes that really got to me were the little twin ghost girls floating down the hall, and the blizzard night scenes out in the snow with the wind whistling-—oh, and the music echoing from the ballroom being played by a non existent orchestra.

Never saw that, but I did see the sequel on "Mystery Science Theater 3000."

I remember that movie. It was odd—supposed to be a kid’s movie, then they have those godawful, terrifying banshees... It freaked me out, too.
