Once again we see Islam being brought into the workplace. Today we learn that Minnesota Vikings safety Husain Abdullah, has decided that fasting and playing at a lower level, is more important than giving it his all for the team.
Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.
Im putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion, Abdullah said. This is something I choose to do, not something I have to do. So Im always going to fast.

I had no clue the Minnestota Vikings coaching staff were a bunch of flakes!
Ever hear of a baseball player by the name of Sandy Koufax? Being Jewish, he refused to pitch the first game of the World Series in 1965. The LA Dodgers went on to lose that game 8-2.
God in heaven decides who is righteous and righteousness only comes through faith. Faith that God sent his son Jesus to die on the cross, go to hell, take our sickness, our sin, our poverty on him so all those who believe on him can be redeemed back to the Father.
This Muslim is a heretic and a showman as are the rest of them.
It’s one month out of every year, and the way the Ramadan rotates last year was the last year during his career. It ends right before his team’s first game this year, then during the pre-season next year, and in another few years will be over before pre-season even starts.
He’s not really demanding anything, he’s just not eating and drinking during the day.

The fact that he is a Muslim or that he is fasting doesnt make him an America-hating terrorist. Id say this is admirable and I wish more Christian players would put their faith above the game.
If more Christian players put their faith above the game, they wouldn’t be ‘working’ (getting paid) on Sunday, now would they?
The interesting question was, what if Game 7 of that series fell on a Saturday?
But at least Koufax was good enough to make an exception. This guy is probably in the middle-tier of secondary players.
“his faith .. his faith”
I know what you’re saying. But I think you have to be careful you’re not accepting the lib premise that it’s all the same, “your faith, his faith, whatever”
Islam is a bald-faced lie. 1600 years after the Old Testament was written they knocked off parts of it & crossed out jewish names & put arab names. Any 5 year old could see that!
It’s the 6th century equivalent of scientology! A farce! Laughable, pathetic fiction. Unfortunately time blurs those edges for most people.
When you stand up for Biblical principles, you are doing something good.
When this guy plays a worse game of football than usual it is because he’s following blatant lies. Following blatant lies arbitrarily is not good. It’s foolish.
Yes he will
It’s the NFL they can cut him lose anytime they want, just stick him on the waiver wire and wave bye bye. The NFL is the ultimate fired for “cause” employer. They’d get in trouble if they said they did it because he was Muslim, but there’s no limitation to just getting rid of people because they want to. Heck the way league personnel work they have to have 1 healthy scratch every game (teams can have a 53 man roster but can only dress 52 on game day).
You're kidding, right? Have you seen what the media has done to Tim Tebow over the past few years? Raked him over the coals for his Christianity. His religion has become a bigger topic of conversation than his play.
And the Ramadan types who publicly proclaim Islam as the most important thing in their lives? Nary a peep. I can only imagine what would have been written about Tebow had he tried to pull off fasting that would affect his workout/game play.
It’s interesting how many FReepers think the pigskin is made of pig.
The NFL is so incredibly pro-Obama. They sold a team to a muslim crook but Rush could not buy one. I love Rush but amazingly like an idiot he keeps pimping for the NFL/Football. Screw the NFL, NCAA, MBL, NBA and ESPN.
I’m supporting logic and intelligence over fear mongering and slurs.
That’s not true - he wouldn’t play the big Jewish holidays, even if it was the World Series, but he would pitch on Saturdays
Then he should NOT work in (on) a field that requires a high level of physical performance during a time that coincides with a self imposed, physical commitment to his ‘faith.’
Period.
And the Vikings are in a lovely position to be sued. If he faints and is given fluids THEY violated his religious freedoms; if he dies of dehydration his estate will no doubt sue for the damages caused by their (Vikes) failure to provide for Mr. Religious Conviction’s safety.
I in no way endorse or recommend Isalm... But I admire anyone who puts God before their riches, fame, fortune, or status, even if their view of God is skewed.
I firmly believe that if those who call themselves “Christian” would take their faith as seriously as this player does, we would see a radically different world. And no, I’m not talking about all Christians suddenly becoming legalistic and bound with a chain to “The Law”... but just that we take our following Christ seriously - particularly to love one another as He commanded, and sharing the truth of His love and perfect redemption with the lost and dying world.
Excuses, excuses. Ramadan fasting is not absolute, as there are a LOT of exemptions for practical reasons. He is attempting to flaunt his religion by not drinking.
Two exemptions that apply here are travel and health. If he has to travel, he is allowed to fast on other days to make up. If he is required to exert himself in the heat in that uniform, then not drinking water endangers his health through dehydration. In that case he can make up for it by providing, for each day he breaks his fast, the daily Ramadan meals for another person who is less fortunate. As a pro NFL player, I’m sure he can afford to pay for a couple dozen meals for the less fortunate in order to get right with Allah.
Oh. Sort of like this Abdullah guy then.
Their nutritionists should do a batter job getting him through the month. Part of their job is to work with the particular variations of all their people, food allergies and religion, to give them the fuel they need. It’s just a sunrise to sunset restriction, a good chunk of the NBA has managed to handle this with a much more frequent game schedule without incident for ages. If they really really couldn’t figure out how to handle it that’s what the 53rd roster spot is for.
And of course Ramadan is over before his season starts anyway.
