Job-Trends Report: Black Employment Remains Bleak

Youth & Black Men Hardest Hit

Although teen employment rates are "extremely volatile from month to month," say the report's authors, the jump in unemployed Black teens—those between the ages of 16 and 19—is alarming. In June, the number hit a staggering 39.9 percent, up from 38 percent in May, compared with a 23.2 percent and 24.4 percent jobless rate, respectively, for whites.

When broken down by gender, Black male teens were hardest hit, with an unemployment rate of 43.2 percent, up 7.8 percentage points from 35.4 percent in May. The Black female teen unemployment rate dropped from a high of 40.1 percent in May to 36.5 percent in June.

Black men of all ages experienced a higher jobless rate. In June, their unemployment rate hit 18.4 percent, up from 17.8 percent the previous month, versus 9.5 percent for white men for the past two months.

Black women of all ages experienced a slight increase in unemployment in June, moving to 13.5 percent from 12.4 percent in May. Joblessness for white women of all ages, on the other hand, dropped from 8 percent in May to 7.6 percent in June—more than 2 percentage points below the national average.

The UC Berkeley Center's monthly jobs report is part of the Black Worker Project and produced with support from the Open Society Institute's Campaign for Black Male Achievement.

Typical for such an article to focus on the WHAT'S and WHERE's but not the HOW'S or WHY'S.

Life Decisions = Consequences

“The UC Berkeley Center’s monthly jobs report is part of the Black Worker Project and produced with support from the Open Society Institute’s Campaign for Black Male Achievement”.

With drugs being a huge problem in the black community ..I was extremely shocked this morning to see that George Soro’s and wrangled up the California NAACP in support of legalization of pot.

That’ll help the situation. I’m sure.

Soro’s must have something else in mind... evil bastard.

Not just black - anyone with no high school diploma and a criminal record isn’t very employable.

I would not hire an illiterate marxist with his pants to his knees and a backwards baseball cap either.

“Black male teens were hardest hit” They hit themselves.

More than one of five Blacks had dropped out of school (21%)—versus a dropout rate for Whites of 12.2%.

Americans without a high school diploma have considerably lower earning power and job opportunities in today’s workforce. Over a working lifetime from ages 18-64, high school dropouts are estimated to earn $400,000 less than those that graduated from high school.
CLMS May 2009 Report

They are those that don't want to learn and those that don't want to work. What do you expect?

Solution: Teach them to pull their damn pants up, adopt a culture of education, work ethic, success, respect and peace. Throw away the culture of the thug life, the gangbanging, drugs and being a player. Respect family. Respect marriage. Be a good parent. Study hard. Don't have kids until you are economically ready to provide for them. Don't look for a handout. Take responsibility for your future, your home, your car, your kids and your actions. Keep a clean home, clean street, clean clothes, clean appearance. Be a leader. MAKE YOURSELF A ROLL MODEL! Show and teach others success. This goes for every person regardless of race or gender. This is how this world works.

In Chicago when a kid walks down the street that wants to study hard and not join the thug life they murder him. Until this culture is changed no amount of money for teachers or schools is going to make a damn bit of difference. Change the culture of destruction. Change from within and you will see a real change that is not dependent upon anyone in office.

nearly 40% of them are unemployed ... and yet over 90% still strongly approve of him...

Racism anyone?

When is the black community going to stop voting for people based on their skin color? What is it about the black community that makes them so racist? I guess they would rather cut their nose off just to spite their face.

RE: “They are those that don’t want to learn”

I live far enough out in the woods that there ain’t no AM radio reception when the engine’s running. Only talk radio I hear is with the key in the ACC position while I’m working on the car, or Nat’l Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” on my rotating-shift commutes. Good to know one’s enemies, eh?

And NPR may be less of an enemy, this week. Was shocked — shocked— to hear an NPR report about failing schools say something like “...difficult to enable inner-city kids to learn, or even get them interested in learning...”

My old Dad, skidding logs in the local hardwood forests behind a part-Percheron horse named Diamond, 45 years ago, could probably offer some insight. Sometimes, late into a hot, muggy morning, old Diamond would stand knee deep in cool, rushing creek water for five minutes or more with sweat literally dripping off his belly, but he wouldn’t drink. Just wasn’t thirsty, yet. Didn’t need water. Would drink water later, maybe, but didn’t need any right now.

Minimum Wage Increase.

Worst hit: Young Black Men.

As expected. Keeps them on the Plantation (D).

“When is the black community going to stop voting for people based on their skin color? What is it about the black community that makes them so racist? I guess they would rather cut their nose off just to spite their face.”

When are Hispanics going to stop voting for Hispanic candidates?

When are native Hawaiians going to stop voting for native Hawaiian candidates?

For that matter, when are Asians going to stop voting for an Asian candidate, when one is available to vote for?

There is only ONE ethnic/racial group that doesn’t regularly vote this way. Can you guess which one that is?

The harsh, cold and unpleasant reality is, is that it’s natural and normal for ethnic and racial groups to identify with each other on the basis of such characteristics, and to vote for candidates of their own “kind” — because they (correctly or incorrectly) believe that candidates “like themselves” will best advance their groups’ interests and agendas.

If you’re a Hispanic, why vote for the old white guy, when you can vote for a “wise Latina”? Who is going to be seen as the one who will better promulgate the interests of Latinas and Latinos?

We Euros have a dream. It’s a great dream, but one that we created and one that worked for us, so long as our nation remained pretty much exclusively a “Euro nation” up until the 1960’s.

At the core of that dream is the believe that ANYone who comes here will in time become exactly “like us” and adopt and embrace our own ethnic history.

The dream was that of “egalitarianism”, and if you don’t examine it very closely, it looks to be an attractive one indeed. But it ain’t workin’.

And Republicans (and many so-called “conservatives”) just can’t seem to “get it”, as to why.

It isn’t the behavior of the non-Euros that is un-natural.
It is our own.

In just 2 generations, Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” has achieved a 75% illegitimacy rate in the black community. Take a bow Democrats!

We bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants a year with more than a third without a high school diploma. Most are poor, uneducated, and unskilled. They are taking the jobs of all Americans, especially blacks and teenagers.

Looking at change over time shows that in the 10 states where immigrants increased the most as a share of workers, labor force participation of U.S.-born teenagers declined 17 percentage points. In the 10 states where immigrants increased the least, teen labor force participation declined 9 percent.

The number of U.S.-born teenagers not in the labor force increased from 4.7 million in 1994 to 8.1 million in 2007. In the summer of 2009 it stood at 8.8 million.

The severity of the decline is similar for U.S.-born black, Hispanic, and white teens. Between 1994 and 2007 the summer labor force participation of black teens declined from 50 to 35 percent; for Hispanic teens from 52 to 37 percent; and for whites it declined 69 to 55 percent.
