The Oil Spill Concealment Has Begun
Bluegrass Pundit ^ | July 3, 2010 | Bluegrass Pundit

Oil is still gushing from the exploded Deep Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico. There is no foolproof plan to stop the leak until mid-August when the relief wells are complete. BP is capturing about half of the leaking oil. They are planning to connect new equipment this weekend which they claim will increase the capture rate. BP's past claims haven't always proven out. The Gulf oil spill has been a PR nightmare for President Obama. A majority of Americans rate Obama's handling of the disaster the same or worse than Bush's handling of hurricane Katrina. Some pundits are claiming it could be his "Waterloo." After first trying to use the oil spill disaster for political purposes to push Cap and Trade, President Obama has decided to keep the oil spill off the front page. One part of his plan is to give the media something else to focus on. Thursday, President Obama tried to change the topic by kicking off his controversial immigration reform plan in a speech. Next, he needs to restrict coverage of the disaster. Obama's democratic allies in the House blocked a trip by Republican lawmakers to see the damage caused by BP’s oil spill in person. Then, President Obama's point man for the disaster, U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, has restricted media access to view the oil spill clean-up and damage. Anderson Cooper reports for CNN on the restrictive new Coast Guard rules here.

wth doesn’t EVERY GOP congressmen and senator go down there on their own money?

We should have no respect for them whining about how Nan Pelosi won’t pay their way - NONE

“on their own money?

That is the problem. Congress spends the taxpayers money and not their own.

A new CAP is currently being prepped and lowered to replace the old one.

The new CAP will be ‘secured’ instead of just bouncing around like the current one.

July 15 is the target date for installation of the new CAP.

Here are the feeds showing them prepping the new CAP.

Isn’t it funny how he never once mentions the Obama administration? He lays the total blame on Thad Allen. Where does he think Allen’s orders come from?

Thank you for the post. I had heard this but missed Anderson Cooper’s report. I have bookmarked. There are a lot of citizen reporters out there posting real beach conditions on youtube. I know it is not all about the beach, but what washes up on the beach is what is out in the gulf.

Senators from the affected states should issue a formal (and highly publicized) invitation to the Congress to come down to see the disaster first hand. It shouldn’t be hard to put a sizeable delegation together and pay for this short trip with their own money.

Good idea! If you're interested in posting to Bobby Jindal's Facebook, here is the link.

I have a question about the relief wells.

My understanding is the relief well will intercept the spilling well. Then they will pump a heavy "mud" down into the spilling well through the relief well. The theory is as they pump the heavy mud into the spilling well the volume of it will become so heavy it will clog the spilling well.

So why are they drilling the relief well? Why not just pump the mud directly into the spilling well. If you answer because the pressure is so great in the spilling well they cannot force the mud down the spilling well pipe, then how are they going to force the mud down the relief well pipe? As soon as they intercept the spilling well, the pressure in the relief well will become as great as in the spilling well. The only way I can see this working is if the total volume of mud in the relief well is great enough to block the pressure. And if that is dependent upon the relief well being a mile deeper than the spilling well what is the guarantee the volume transferred to the spilling well will be enough?

Another question. Assuming they do intercept the spilling well and start pumping the mud into it, wouldn't they have to be pumping more volume of mud than the oil that is escaping from the spilling well? If they have less volume won't the mud just be jettisoned with the oil?

A simple mind is just asking. Thank you.

I also have questions about the relief wells. I thought with the relief wells they would then pump that oil out and then would be able to plug the original hole but continue to get the oil in that reservoir.

April 20, 2010. Welcome to the Second American Revolution.

May I remind you again....

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They were fought on April 19, 1775, in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy (present-day Arlington), and Cambridge, near Boston. The battles marked the outbreak of open armed conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in the mainland of British North America.

Oil spewing for two and a half months thus far and still spewing today is clearly Obozo's abject failure to lead. His assembly of a few environmentalists to brain storm and solve the issue says it all, He's effing CLUELESS!!!

I believe I read somewhere that the current well is fractured near the top, so the mud is shooting out the cracks into the bore hole itself. It may not be compromised down deep in the well. It’s amazing that they can do what they are proposing.

Just a few observations. Remember the well wasn’t out of control until they removed the mud and replaced it with sea water during the orginal cementing process. Thus the mud was holding the well pressure under control.

When the get to the bottom and intersect the bore that is free flowing it won’t take as much pressure to pump the mud into the well at that distance. It will have the weight of the string of mud coming down plus the sucking action of the free flow up the pipe.

They tried and did inject mud from the top but they didn’t have the volume available with the smaller connections/pipes on the BOP. That’s my understanding anyway.

...The Oil Spill Concealment Has Begun...

I read somewhere this morning that people are seeing truckloads of sand being brought in to cover up oil on the beaches rather than clean it. I'll see if I can find that report.

When did FreeRepublic start giving credence to Anderson Cooper?

Keeping unhelpful annoying media boats 65 feet away from the boats that are actually trying to clean things up hardly seems like a media blackout.

Oil covered in sand won’t get on wildlife and kill it. When all the leaking is done, they can come process the sand and clean it up.

As they are drilling the relief well, the relief well is already filled with drilling mud. So when they do intercept the current well, they will already have more mud weight in the relief well than the pressure of the current well could push up.

Then they pump more mud down the relief well, it gets pushed up the original well, except after the original well is full of mud, that mud will also be too heavy for the oil to push, and the well will be effectively stopped.

You can’t push the mud down the well, because you’d have to directly exert more pressure down than is exerted up, doubling the load on parts that were already known to be damaged by the accident (the BOP), and possibly breaking something.

They tried a non-destructive version of “pushing the mud down”, but it failed.

Since then they’ve been collecting large amounts of oil, and in the next week or two hope to add additional capacity that will completely capture all the oil from the well.

Covering oil with sand is a rational step in the cleanup process, it quickly removes the oil from direct impact on the environment, and keeps it from getting washed back out into the gulf if the tides get rough.

If you spilled a bunch of oil in your garage, you might well clean it up by dumping sand or kitty litter on it, and then scooping it up later when the sand/litter had absorbed most of the oil.
