...But this is not a perfect world, and now, tragically, the families of Curtis and Cokab, instead of celebrating the 4th of July, will be burying these two fine young police officers, husbands, and family men. What started off in the early hours of Tuesday morning as a routine stop of a car with no license plate on display quickly turned deadly when, according to the police, the passenger in the car, identified as 24 year-old Dontae Morris, opened fire on both officers.

The suspect, who has a lengthy police record, reportedly fled on foot and the car sped off, leaving the two officers mortally wounded. Kocab died shortly afterwards, but Curtis was able to hold on long enough for his family to make the decision to allow the hospital to harvest his organs for transplants.

If he is captured alive, tried, convicted, and sentenced [either to death or life imprisonment] with Kagan on the Supreme Court he does not have much to worry about. She will hlp turn him loose.

>> This is why we have the death penalty.

“Morris, however, remains at large and is considered armed and extremely dangerous. His family has pleaded to allow him to turn himself in, but the manhunt is on and police from all over the country are on the lookout.”

I hope it’s not necessary to employ the death penalty — because they locate him and dispose of his sorry butt right there on the spot.

So there is a 100K reward out for the scum for anyone who provides information leading to his capture...I wish that read there is a 100K bounty on him to be brought in DEAD or alive...your choice but if you chose to take him out, there is also a prekilling amnesty citation.

They can use the same excuse the Russian Spetznaz general used when the Human Rights Commission in the Hague wanted to put him on trial for killing the entire extended family of one of the suspected organizers of the Beslan school atrocity.

“We heard a shot.”

The general did not bother to appear at the Hague, but sent a one-sentence note with those words.

This is just one more case where the person who did the crime should not have been on the street. He was jailed in Jacksonville and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Tampa. Tampa had asked Jacksonville to hang on to him, but he was released anyway. It was the discovery of that led him to shoot the officers during a routine traffic stop.

We have a justice system that barely works, if it works at all. Every aspect of it is stretched to the limit. Until we find a way to keep people like this in jail the situation is not going to improve.

This case is a prime example of what ails our criminal justice system all across America.

IMHO, the very last thing that should be short-changed or stretched too thin is criminal justice. Churches and liberal groups can always scrounge around and find the money to feed hungry children or get medical care for the truly needy, but there is NO alternative to having enough officers on the street, courts, judges and jail space to handle people like the animal who did this.

And the saddest part is that there will probably not be a thorough, unbiased investigation into exactly how this animal was on the street to do his evil. It will simply be chalked up to another administrative error with the lame excuse that the system is underfunded and overused. Two wives are widows and five kids now have no dads. And mostly because Tampa can't have Jacksonville keep someone in jail. Someone who is already in their custody.

And the really scary part is the realization that this animal is not alone. There are dozens, maybe hundreds of others out there who will kill without warning if stopped for a traffic violation.

why cant tampa charge the jacksonville officer or clerk that signed off on the release form (im assuming theres a form) with accessory to a crime or maybe obstruction of justice or something along those lines? it seems that releasing someone when there is a warrant on them should be a no-no. it looks to me like states need to make it a state crime to put in place laws and processes to make sure cross jurisdictional felons/suspects are retained and processed better

Some of you guys sure attribute a lot of power to one justice. She is replacing a liberal, she can do no more than any other Justice, the split will still be 5/4 and she cannot make rulings on her own. So, no, this guy can’t be sprung by the Justice from he**, nor can she single handedly over turn the second amendment. We just have to vote in Republican Presidents so the next Justices to be placed on the bench are constructionists.

Well it’s now perfectly legal for blacks to prevent whites from VOTING. Maybe Hussein has decided it’s OK for brothers to shoot whites as well.

We have black ‘preachers’ like Rev. Wright saying that everything is Whitey's fault, over and over again, in black churches all across the country. Yet the media only seems concerned that their fave boogie men: Rush, Beck, Palin, and the Tea Party, might be inciting violence. They ignore the incredible amount of black on white violence (remember the LIRR shooter anyone?), while searching, hoping, and praying that any incident can be pinned on their nemeses.
