USA 1 Ghana 2 The Black Stars kill the USA dream

According to the rules of engagement the Sons of Sam only attack if you attack them first. May be for the next World Cup this needs to be changed. Go ahead and shoot from the beginning.

When General Petraeus is done with Afghanistan he may counsel Team USA on how to change to rules of engagement.

It is no coincidence Ghana is the last team standing from the continent hosting the tournament. The Black Stars have four Africa Cup of Nations trophies. The team was the youngest during the World Cup 2006. Now the youngsters are all grown-ups and shining.

Kevin-Prince who scored the first goal was born in Berlin and used to play for the German youth team. His grandfather Helmut Rahn scored the winning goal in the 1954 World Cup Final (West Germany 3 Hungary 2). He would have been proud of his grandson.

There is a theoretical possibility today that both brothers will play against each other if Ghana and Germany reach the World Cup Final (if Prince’s injury is not too serious).

5-time NBA Champion Kobe Bryant and two-term US President Bill Clinton brought star-shine to the VIP box. Both proved to be successful in their career with just occasional distraction of a sex scandal. The Bad Boys cheered for Team USA faithfully.

Landon Donovan was the leader for the Sons of Sam through the tournament. He calmly scored the penalty shot that gave the Team USA hopes through the regular time.

Gyan from Ghana was the person who killed the US Dreams for another chance on quarterfinal at the beginning of the extra time. The State Department should put him on the no-fly list until the next World Cup.

See you back in four years! Say, say, USA!

I thought that Altidore will score for Ghana if they really needed him.

Check the goal he “missed” in the second half - he guarded the ball so the Ghana goalkeeper can get it without problems.

My other question is, why does Mexico get 2 more days off for their Round of 16 game, than the US got?

It was a definite penalty. From the side angle he missed the ball completely.

If both qualify then US would get more time for the next game.

I was a little surprised that both A vs B games weren't today, but my guess is that the schedule was determined before the draw.

Where is the field goal or the two run homer when we need it? Soccer will always suffer from the lack of scoring and the inability to come back late in the game. Most of the time, 1-0 is pretty much lights out.

Hopefully this means we’ll be reading far fewer posts about kickball.

It is too bad that the US team lost, but my God, the only way I could get though games was to DVR them and fast forward through more that half of it, and put it on 2X speed-up for the rest!

Soccer is such a snore of a sport to watch!

If only there were timeouts every 10 seconds and 2 hours of commerical during 3 hours of gametime!

That's a little harsh. Basically, to play a game of soccer all you need is a few kids, some open space, four rocks to mark out where the goals are, and a ball. No equipment (except for a ball) needed so even the poorest of the poor can play and dream of becoming a (very rich if he makes it into one of the European leagues) hero. One of the best sports for developing endurance, agility, and overall fitness too. That being said, it just isn't "our" sport.

I think the over the top disparagement of soccer a lot of us like to indulge in (including me) stems from the fact that every four years as the rest of the world goes gaga over the World Cup we get the chance to give that world the finger. Which is only fair and just since, when not begging us for help, they give us the finger every single friggin' day.

Noble effort they just came up a little but short. The Ghana game winning goal and a good effort. He did a great job of keeping his balance and kicking it in the goal. Nice effort USA.

I would say our Defense was physically over matched. Which is manageable when the midfield doesn’t let the other team look up. Unfortunately our midfield gave away the ball and wouldn’t pressure. Also, we had too many back passes. Best thing Bradley did was take out Clark.

It was Bradley's decision to start Clark, and he cost us the first goal. Dumb, dumb on Bradley's part.

I try to stay positive.

Same here. I try to look at the bright side -- now that the U.S. is out of the tourney, soccer will vanish from the both the sports news and the nation's radar for another four years. ...when we'll be treated to yet another round of "THIS is the World Cup that'll propel soccer to the status of a major sport here in the States."

Not enough. No professional level training until our players are in their teens, at best. It’s the reason we don’t have a any good forwards. By the time our athletes figure out enough on their own about playing forward, they are 24 and on their way out.

If only there were timeouts every 10 seconds and 2 hours of commerical during 3 hours of gametime!

Those "timeouts" you are talking about happen between set-peices of intense action with great potential for scoring.

Those 2 hours of commercials are there because U.S. Football is a game that many successful people (i.e. with disposable income) like to watch!
