James Taylor And Carole King – A Troubadour Reunion, 40 Years In The Making
Grand Rants ^ | June 26, 2010 | Gerry Ashley

Posted on 06/26/2010 12:53:10 PM PDT by BigChiefLtd

The dictionary defines a troubadour as ”one who composes or sings verses or ballads.”

History has been littered with them. Some better than others. But to dismiss James Taylor or Carole King as merely troubadours would be like saying a Ferrari is merely a car… a Lear Jet is merely an airplane.

Few recording artists have sold more records. Even fewer songwriters have had a greater impact on the lives of the boomer generation. (Click to see details about the amazing reunion concert and how it turned into the hottest tour of the year).

I had some business dealings with her about 18 years ago and she is a shrew of the first order.

I guess one point of view would be - Well that’s just bidness.

However, I’m sure you wouldn’t see it that way and my guess is that you’re probably right.

Me neither.

I successfully ignored the bulk of Taylor's drivel, but when he defiled Handy Man I thought he should have been drug outside behind the studio and shot.

I used to like both James Taylor and Carole King. But something inside has died and I just can’t hide and I just can’t fake it. They no longer have me for a friend, Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. So goodnight you moonlight ladies, I won’t be rockabyeing Sweet Baby James down on Copperline. They can walk on down the country road for all I care. The earth won’t move under my feet and the sky won’t tumble down whenever they’re around. Smackwater Jack has left the station.

"she’s got some serious issues, but a lot of musicians do I suppose."

The list of artists, living and dead, who I admire and never want to meet is long.

There is a pretty good movie “inspired” by Carole King’s career up to Tapestry called “Grace of My Heart”. Highly recommended. Never could stand James Taylor though. Too darn whinny.

>>> There was this one summer when all they played on the radio were songs from that album, Tapestry. Probably 1972 or thereabouts. I got my fill then - don’t need any more.

Does that apply to the other Carole King music? They’ve never stopped playing the other music she wrote including :

Crying in the Rain
Don’t Say Nothin’ Bad (About My Baby)
Go Away Little Girl
I’m into Something Good
It’s Going to Take Some Time
Keep Your Hands Off My Baby
The Loco-Motion
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
One Fine Day
Pleasant Valley Sunday
Take Good Care of My Baby
Up on the Roof
Will You Love Me Tomorrow

And that just scratches the surface.

Agree that the Goffin-King songwriting combo was fruitful.
The album Tapestry is just not my cup of tea, however.
