Obama Is Wrong; Alternative Energy is Not an Alternative
Canada Free Press ^ | 6/21/2010 | Dr Tim Ball

Obama is using the oil spill in the Gulf as an emotional lever to push his cap and trade policy. The spill is a disaster, but exploiting it is truly despicable.

It is made far worse when the alternative energies solutions don’t work. Increased costs will damage the economy and negatively impact the people he claims to represent. We’re in this predicament because of exploitation by politicians and environmental groups who deliberately ignore scientific evidence and corruption in climate science. Options were dramatically reduced by campaigns of fear against nuclear power creating legislation so that it now takes up to 14 years to construct a nuclear power plant.

Obama’s Cap and Trade will increase the cost of oil, coal and natural gas sufficient to make the US economy uncompetitive. This will reduce the possibility of paying off the massive debt he has incurred.

Today’s gasoline automobile engines are so efficient there isn’t reason to switch to any other form of motor.

I wouldn't say that....newer clean diesel engines are far more efficient than standard gasoline engines. If the free market were left to its' own devices, consumer demand would result in most cars using that engine.

But the real issue here is that there is NOTHING on the horizon that can or will replace refined petroleum products as the primary source of transportation energy. It's the most abundant, efficient, and cost effective method of moving people and goods. That being the case, why change? The oil's there, let's use it, all the while trying to make the internal combustion engine as efficient and clean as possible.

For the time being, we need more nuclear plants and a concerted effort to develop Nano Technology if we want to get off oil...........someday.

While I have nothing against nuclear power... One of the very first things Obama did was cut off funding for the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository. The government is now being sued for billions of dollars by utilities that have been screwed by this decision. Yucca Mt. was studied for decades and is the best site available in the country. No one is going to build anymore nuclear power plants anywhere in this country until the issue of where the waste will be stored is answered.

In the name of Global Warming Obama has stated that he will bankrupt any company which tries to build any more coal fired power plants. We have over 500 years of already known readily accessible coal reserves in this country. By adding uncertainty Obama has assured that no new coal fired power plants will be built.

Both Coal and Nuclear power can easily provide enough efficient and affordable electrical power for our country for the foreseeable future. Windmills and solar power are not only unreliable they are only economically feasible when propped up with massive amounts of government subsidies. They are a non-solution that is only meant to distract us while our power generating capacity slowly lags behind the demand which will cause massive rate increases.

If entrepreneurs figured out a way to make unlimited amounts of electricity out of Sea Water... the Obama administration would destroy the business and any trace of the technology in short order. The goal here is not to make “clean energy” or provide “green jobs”. The goal is to destroy our economy and create a large enough crisis that the angry masses will allow our political system to collapse. It is all about power... political power.
