BREAKING NEWS - ABBY SUNDERLAND NOW MISSING AT SEA!
Grind TV reports that 16 year old Abby Sunderland, who had been attempting to sail around the world alone is now missing at sea. Sunderland, says Grind TV, endured multiple knockdowns in 60-knot winds Thursday before conditions briefly abated.
However, her parents lost satellite phone contact early this morning and an hour later were notified by the Australian Coast Guard that both of Sunderland's EPIRB satellite devices had been activated.
One is apparently is attached to a survival suit or a life raft and meant to be used when a person is in the water or aboard a life raft.
Abby's father struggled with emotions and said he didn't know if his daughter was in a life raft or aboard the boat, or whether the boat was upside down.
"Everything seemed to be under control, Laurence Sunderland said. But then our call dropped and a hour later the Coast Guard called."

i searched on the title and did not see it...
At 16, I would have been up for this, and an ardent supporter.
Now past 50, I would not allow any 16 year old to attempt this.
She was having engine troubles and maybe radio troubles. She had enough time to set the beacons, so I hope her radio just went out and she just needs a pick up.
If that were me I’d have a GPS surgically implanted up my royal American so they could find me.
i too am on the right side of fifty and completely agree.
Girls can fly!

Heavenly Father: we pray to you for those on the perilous ocean that you will embrace them with your mighty protection and grant them success in all their rightful undertakings. Grant them in all hours of need to see that they have a God who remembers them, and grant them grace in the hour of danger to commit their souls into your hands. O Lord Jesus Christ, who can rebuke the storm and bring it to silence, and lay the roaring waves to rest, show them who call to you out of the deep that you hear their prayer and will save them. And finally bring us all to the only safe port. Amen.
Attempting a feat like this was fraught with danger. I’m sure everyone knew that.
If my Daughter had told me she wanted to do something like this, I would have freaked out.
How sad :(
Say a prayer. Then lower the flag to half staff.
The only way I would allow my daughter to do that is to have a U.S. Warship follow right behind her.
>>>”Abby’s father struggled with emotion”>>>
Didn’t he have any emotion when he agreed to let her do this? At 16 he could certainly have stopped her unless she ran away and did it.
Young Abby has my prayers.... and envy. If she makes it, what an adventure!!
I am on the under side of 50....and still agree with you....Too dangerous....Storms, pirates, etc....Hopefully she will be fine.
I can’t imagine that she would attempt this without someone at least close...say a mile or so behind//// a 16 yo girl on land is tempting enough for some, but in an ocean all alone??? she is completely defenseless against nature and anyone wishing to do her harm.
