Appropriately revered west coast burger chain In-N-Out Burger is making an unprecedented expansion into Dallas, Texas.
The chain has infamously not expanded beyond the Western states of California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, as In-N-Out trucks in its meat from a central facility and has resisted reorganizing that structure in order to accomodate farther reaching locations (for a visual explanation of the process, see this graphic at the Orange County Register).

Their hamburgers are quite similar to Whataburgers. The big difference is Whataburger has lots of additional items added to their menus over the years while In-N-Out Burger has a stripped down menu more like Whataburger’s original menu.
If you have Five Guys, you don’t need another burger joint.
This had to be bad management. Nothing compares to Five Guys here.
I have one of each a few blocks from home (and an In-n-Out).
When I lived in Sunland, I had an In-N-Out and a Tommy's close by. Had to go all the way to Sunset and Vermont for Fatburger's, though.
Yeah, I've heard that the sales tax had gone up. I know that it's 9.75% in Burbank now. That's just outrageous.
I would agree that their fries are overrated and often overcooked in my opinion, but their burgers are good.

When I was a starving musician, my bandmates and I would eat at Oki Dog at least three times a week. You couldn't get so much food for so little money anywhere else in Hollywood.
But, that stuff is deadly. It's the crack cocaine of fast food.
Five Guys is OK - they just opened a few in San Antonio. Prefer Bobby J’s and Chris Madrids though and Whataburger as well depending on the location.
Used to love how guys would cut a few letters out of their bumper stickers and reassemble (BTW- no longer available).
In-N-Out Burger > In-N-Out urge
You would be hard pressed to see such a wide variety of clientele at any other fast food joint in LA.
Nearly all found Oki-Dog through inebriated hunger or a dare.
Oki-Dog is one of those unique, stand-alone fast food joints that has never expanded beyond the one original store (to my best knowledge), and will be sorely missed when it finally closes.
When I was a kid, there was a place called “The House of Burgers” on 94th and Avalon, right down the street from my grandparent’s home.
They had some of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. They were unlike anyone else’s. Sadly, it was a Mom & Pop shop, and when they retired, they sold it to someone else, who promptly changed the winning formulas and recipes. It died soon after.
In-N-Out Burger might be the ONLY GOOD thing to come out of California. (I say that with the full understanding that Reagan 'came out of' Illinois)
Garland was also the first to get cable internet in the Metroplex. I was Queen of the Nerds at work. (”What, you don’t have high speed?”)
The owner of was a guy named Jimmy Sueyoshi, man what a character. He owned a small cafe next to the Santa Monica location, which served the breakfast equivalent.
I’m not sure about the Dallas sales tax, but down here in San Antonio it is 8.125%, so not much lower. However, we have no income tax in Texas, so that more than makes up the difference.
Maybe In-n-Out will make it down to the Alamo City? We have already received a few Five Guys & Carl’s Jr. recently. Maybe they can run Booger King and Yack in the Box out of town. :)
