Anyone else use a pressure cooker? (vanity)

I'm a single guy that does almost all my own cooking. Mostly beans, soups, and chicken.

These pressure cookers, (at sea level) speed up the cooking times dramatically!. Also, for reheating leftovers, its great!

Last night, I found a store bought rotisserie chicken that was half eaten and 6 days old in the frig, most would throw it out. Not me! Pop it in the pressure cooker, add a little water, can of Mushroom soup, bring up to pressure (15psi) for 5 mins, damn it was good!

That theres funny.

How many days did it take to scrape everything clean? I suspect some new paint was part of the picture.

I knew it was a major cleanup job to begin with, just didn’t know how major. I had three teen-age daughters at home at the time, so there was a crew of four of us.

Scrubbed the ceiling- not fun
Scrubbed floors
Scrubbed walls

Problem was it literally went everywhere- so every cupboard, appliance, you name it- every inch had to be cleaned. Then we would still find places with it, every nook and cranny.

Finally we painted the kitchen.

To this day none of my daughters will use a pressure cooker or stay anywhere where anyone else is using one. I can’t imagine why.

How do you field-dress an armadillo?

The same as a pangolin, only with a smaller knife.

LOL

Thanks for sharing!

I guess that would be one of the “major life events” wee hear of from time to time.

Dearest Tammy,,, you should try again,, 1/3 full for beans of any kind,, 1/2 for anything else.. really,, try it outside if you have to. One bad experience does not make a life decision for you. Just think back to the guys you dated... some had to be real losers.. but you persevered!

If you had not tried again,,, would you have daughters?

I used a pressure cooker for years without any issue, and have used it many times since the incident- what happened that day was the pressure release clogged and my daughter was ignoring it so didn’t notice it wasn’t shhh shhhing like it should- before the safety plug went it made the worst shreek/scream noise you ever heard. It was exciting but I am not afraid to use a pressure cooker. My daughters won’t though.

Lard is best thing for fried chicken and for pie crusts - not that I can make a crust worth a darn. But fried chicken! The BEST! Plus lard is a natural grease unlike that hydrogenated crap

Mine called them that also. Found this on Wiki.

The hoe cake got its’ name from how it was made. When the Indians were working fields, they left home early in the morning and didn’t return home until after dark. They would carry prepared dry mix and a pan to the fields and, at lunchtime, grab some water or milk (if available), and stir it into the mix. This would make the dough. Then they cleaned off any dirt with a cultivating hoe, which they then heated in a fire. The flattened dough was put onto the hot hoe, which was then held as near the fire as possible without burning and. The dough baked.

Thats how the cake got its’ name!

My room mate and I made a still from a pressure cooker 25 years ago.

This thread makes me want one to actually cook with.

Now I'll need to get 2 pressure cookers.
