Ten Things for 2010 (Denninger/Market Ticker Strong Warning)
The Market Ticker ^ | May 14, 2010 | Karl Denninger

Posted on 05/14/2010 8:42:21 PM PDT by Travis McGee

(This is from the middle, but go to the link and read it all.)

Get those "sudden stop" plans in place - NOW. If you're in a big city you're in big trouble. Find friends or relatives that aren't and see what you can do about a place to go where you have a reasonable shot at avoiding the worst of this. Look, all-out civil unrest (or worse) is a low-probability event but if you get trapped in a big city and the worst comes that city will go feral within hours and become a free-fire zone. What's worse, many of these cities are openly hostile to citizens having and using effective self-defense; the bad guys don't give a damn about laws - that's why they're called criminals. There really are bogey men in the world - they're called gangs folks, and they would love the opportunity that a breakdown that would come with such an event. In such a circumstance the only way to win the game is not to play. This is all about where you are, not what you have.

If you haven't acquired the means of lawful self-defense in whatever form or fashion you deem prudent at this point, the time to do so was yesterday. You need time and practice as you need competence - the biggest component of self-defense is the thing found between your ears, not the thing in your hand(s)! I know I've harped on this before but if you think you can go buy a gun when things get dicey and be "protected", having invested nothing in practice and/or training you are very likely to have that weapon taken from you and then be shot with your own gun. That's a crappy way to die; if you're unwilling or unable for whatever reason (including legal restrictions where you live) to acquire the means of defense then being concerned about the above (where you're going to go, how you're going to get there, and what you've got for supplies) becomes even more important.

I’m going to take it up a notch by using your imagery to get them more in touch with their inner bitch!

Make sure you're ready in case you succeed!

During a women's self-defense class I ended up knocking the wind out of the instructor. He told me to knee him in the gut as hard as I could. So I did. Several minutes later he was able to speak again. He asked that I just watch during the next exercise.

He'd been expecting that light pat that all 30+ other women in the class had done.

Nah, a little to negative on this thread. What happened last week when the euro and pound took a dive? The dollar strenghtened. There’s still time to fix things, but we need to do something about the MSM or they will carry the lefts water to the end. Of course brass, lead, silver and gold are good things to keep handy, just in case.

“The dollar strenghtened.”

Only in relative terms, not in purchasing power.

By the way, if I might offer a book recommendation, I'd encourage you to check out Kenneth Sewell's Red Star Rogue, about the Soviet Ballistic-Missile Submarine K129 -- which attempted to launch a nuclear-tipped SLBM on Honolulu in 1968 (but did so using a Chinese launch procedure, from a Chinese firing position, hoping that the USA would buy the ruse and blame Beijing).

Reads like a Clancy novel, except that a real sub went to the bottom. In the author's analysis of what happened, Yuri Andropov does not come off as a particularly nice guy.

So let’s say they try to assault three homes and suffer two casualties.

So they try another three homes and same thing.

How many times can they do this before they are effectively wiped out?

Not many.

In a SHTF scenario, the population of baddasses would be halved or more the first few days.

Just about the only thing that lets these pukes live even right now is the fear the average guy has of the legal system, and what would happen to him if he went out and snuffed a few.

“How many times can they do this before they are effectively wiped out?”

They can recruit. How many times can you or your family die? If this ever happens such savages must be wiped clean and immediately.

Well, until SHTF, civilized people who live in homes and condos and apartments and suburbs tend to obey the law, and don’t shoot back at the dirtbags.

So effectively, it’s been a one-sided war.

If there was massive social unrest, all bets are off. The guy who is hunkered down in his home, and has agreements with just a couple of his neighbors to supply crossfire if needed, is in a vastly superior position to a bunch of wandering thugs who have never been to the neighborhood and don’t know the lay of the land.

Just my opinion.

That sounds damn interesting, but I was not aware that the Chinese had any SSBNs in 1968. Was this a sub that surfaced to fire horizontally-stored rockets?

That math of SWAT only works if they don’t need the manpower to set an external security perimeter.
