The person insulted your mother-they certainly deserved your ire (not the fisticuffs type of ire though) but the fact that it is a girl or boy is irrelevant.

One should never threatened anyone with violence-male or female. By saying it was worse because it was a woman is to imply that if it was a male violence would be appropriate.
