Im no campaign strategist by any stretch of the imagination, but Ive been giving it a lot of thought since Obama was elected president: The only way to fight fire in politics is with fire. That being said, I wonder if the only way to definitively beat Obama in 2012 is with a black Republican candidate.
Dont get me wrong. Im not saying go for an affirmative action pick. (The RNC made that mistake with Michael Steele, in my opinion.) I mean nominate a well-spoken America-loving staunch conservative candidate. And even at this early stage I see many possibilities: Allen West and Herman Cain for starters.
Thoughts?

The disaster caused by tard and “independent” voters who insisted on making an empty suit the world’s most powerful man - just because he was black - means even worthy black candidates can forget about winning the presidency for at least a generation.
And all the while knowing Barry’s church was a God .... America and hate whitey church. They showed their true colors and it’s not red/white/blue.
That’s why Steele was chosen....Sarah Palin will end up being the nominee...
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
I think Oboma is the first and last one
The sort of dumbass thinking that is not needed in the Republican party. But it does fit right in with the Bush/Rove/McCain Pander to Hispanics strategy they tried to force on the party for most of four years. How did that one work out?
Nah, we already did that. Didn’t work.
IAC I would say any black Republican candidate for president should at least have significant experience in state or national level public office, preferably some private sector experience and be able to withstand the inevitable Democrat muckraking that will be personal and racist in nature. As we have seen with Sarah Palin, the candidate's family are considered to be legitimate targets by the 'Rats also.
I like Alan West too. He has a warrior’s heart, and he is smart as they come. His race is irrelevant to me.
He is a wonderful man with guts and plenty of intellectual fire power.
No thanks. This gains us nothing. The black vote will always go to the party offering the most handouts.
This reminds me of when the Alan Keyes Circus came to the screwed-up Illinois Republican Party. What an f’n disaster! I’m all for true conservatives running - regardless of race - but please not for the showmanship aspect. I wish I could vote for Thomas Sowell or Walter E Williams some time....
I have a friend who witnessed the socialism/communism in his native South American country and he hates what is happening here. I told him if he gets his citizenship, I will be his campaign manager.
Following that kind of defeatism, we should just fold it all up and climb into a cave while we're still ahead. What you're really saying is that human nature dictates that things will always degenerate into economic canibalism through "social justice." Or do you think that the Asian vote will always go to the party offering the most financial freedom? That the Hispanic (grrrr ... not even a race, just anyone from Western Hemisphere former colonies of Spain)vote will always go to the party offering the most bilingual guarantees?
That the white vote will always go the the party offering the most ... the most what, exactly?
We're Americans, and intelligent people know that freedom transcends race -- it always has, and it always will. It's why the faces at the tea parties are of all hues.
If I was a black person, I think I might be a little insulted at your pronouncement as to where my vote was doomed forever to go.
I think that the biggest strength of the limited government conservative movement is that its very principle of rejecting an entitlement ethic makes race and ethnicity moot. That can be a powerful uniting force for conservatism; the trick is to do it and gather under the Repubican banner -- to take it over.
Pandering to groups defined on ethnic lines is betrayal when it happens in the Republican party. I want a Republican party that proudly and colorblindly panders to individual free self-determining Americans (as Rush pointed out, the smallest minority is a single person) by promising limited government interference and taxation and upholding inalienable rights as endowed by our Creator, as in our Constitution
It’s not going to happen.
They can feel free to be insulted. From what I’ve seen, they are after freebies, not freedom. A party that appeals to them will never appeal to me.
I expect Rubio to win, and he has endorsed the revised version of Arizona’s immigration measure.
The color of our candidate’s skin matters not. Just let’s get as our nominee a conservative who is proud to be a conservative, and can explain as well as Rush can why conservatism helps ALL Americans better than the alternatives.
Allen West is an American with guts, integrity, and vision.Color does not even enter into the equation with me.
I don’t care what color they are.
It’s their principles and their positions on the issues that matter to me.
The notion that Steele is an affirmative action pick makes little sense being that he ran against the more respected Ken Blackwell. Affirmative action doesn’t involve putting less qualified blacks ahead of more qualified blacks.
