I just hate cannibalism like this when one bottom feeder eats another. West side Alderman Walter Burnett (27th Ward) joined the Fox News Chicago team to eat some Asian carp per his ridiculous suggestion early last week that "the poor" could eat the Asian carp and cure the problem that Lake Michigan faces over the invasive species.
For those unaware of the trouble with the bony Asian carp, the fish has been rapidly invading Illinois waterways and is headed straight for Lake Michigan. The Asian carp has no natural predators here and scientists think that the fish will wildly over populate and drive out other, native species.
But, Oh Alderman Burnett has the most ingenious solution. He says that "the poor" can eat them up and keep their population down.
Yes. He's serious.

Where is the “D?”
Ever tried to eat a carp? I tried a bite once...ONCE. Nasty little bugger.
now he’s full of carp!
My Daddy has this recipie for carp: Slow-cook it on a cedar shingle, adding lard or other fatty substance frequently to keep the shingle from completely burning. Then, when the carp has burned down to the scales, put the carp in the compost pile and serve the shingle.
Local report. It’s Chicago. There’s no such thing as a Republican in City politics.
Smoked carp is pretty damn good. Tastes like smoked chicken...actually more like smoked salmon.
I’ll stick with catfish, thanks.
The bones and the muddy flavor of carp and suckers are tough to deal with (for me). We had a black community a few miles from us as we were growing up and they would pay us 10 cents each for good sized carp. None of the rest of us could stand to eat them. We wanted trout or bass or crappie — even some big bluegill.
let them eat carp!
Knowing how people in the Midwest are picky eaters, they’d rather let their lakes and rivers be full of the Asian carp than to eat something that’s “yucky”.
