Many of us out in the blogosphere have been pondering this question for over a year. Imagine our surprise to find an article by Dr. Walter Williams that actually took on the issue!
Does The U.S. Need To Split?

Unless the country suddenly reverts back to what it is supposed to be - a federation of soverign states - I think a split may be necessary.
If we could get 2/3 of the states together, they could simply abolish the federal government in it’s current form... and start over.
You may as well ask if your mother knows you _______________ (fill in the blank with whatever is most disgusting to you)
I'll hit abuse for the first time in my FR life on THIS one.
Interesting. If a split does occur, 0bama will have his Abraham Lincoln moment once again.
In the discussion the other day, I was seeing a lot more acceptance of the idea than what there was a year ago.
Yes - all Democrats should be sent to California - the rest of us conservatives can go about on re-building the Republic! In time, CA will drop off into the ocean -
Walter Williams disagrees with you.
Unfortunately, one of the proposed solutions — the amicable split — is impossible, because the Left knows there is no “them” without “our” money, labor and resources.
If a split does occur, I would blame the Republicans for it just as much as the Democrats. The GOP lost sight of its own Conservative foundations and opened the door for this whole thing.

Wasn’t that the whole point to posting this crap???? To blame Republicans...
A split, the balkanization of the republic, will destroy any credible military capability we have, will seriously damage our economy, and will lead to the destruction of our infrastructure. The Federal Government, in its current form (by that I mean size and scope) was never meant to exist. Only the laziness of a large part of the citizenry permits it to this day.
Don't be so sure. I think many on the left would view North Korea as the ideal... where ALL live in equal misery. They might welcome the opportunity to implement their plans in their portion of the country where they won't have people fighting back against them.
I eagerly support a breakup. Co-existence with the Left is not possible. The federal government is tainted and cannot be fixed. The separate states need to reassert themselves.
[I think a split may be necessary.]
The Tea Party movement may be a model, a party without being a Party. Maybe there is a way to be a secession without being a Secession - that is by walling off states and communities from the mess. Does a state Have to enforce unconstitutional infringement? Marijuana comes to mind, it is pretty much ignored.
WESTMORELAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING. What’s he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call’d the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian.’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say ‘These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.’
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.
