In a surprising, yet reassuring turn of events, Pope Benedict XIV, the head of the Catholic Church has announced that he is willing to excommunicate any and all Catholic Priests who have been rightfully accused of pedophilia while in service to the Catholic Church.

"It is my sworn duty to uphold the tenants of the faith which rest securely on the never changing, holy scripture, which speaks succinctly, yet passionately, against sexual sin within the body of Christ." Pope Benedict wrote in a letter addressed to "Fellow Catholics, Christians, and citizens of this great planet." ...

You continue to conflate two quite separate issues.

The first is the longstanding issue of clerical abuse, which first came to public notice in the is country in 2002. Every Catholic on this forum condemns this unreservedly and loathes the ground these men walk on.

The second issue is the recent question (last 2 weeks) of the involvement of Pope Benedict XVI.

You persistently and deliberately attempt to construe all attempts to reveal the truth about the second issue as support for the perps mentioned in the first issue. IOW, you attempt to portray support for the Pope as support for child abusers.

This is not only illogical, it is also fundamentally dishonest, disgraceful and your self-righteous protestations to the contrary, marks you out as a time-waster and troll of the first-order.

You are doing absolutely no harm to the Church with your rants. However, you have done great harm to your own credibility. Exhibit "A" in this regard is your complete absence from threads which discuss the issue and present evidence in a balanced manner whereas you are all over any thread which purport to report any negative news about the Church.

Very poor form.

The article is certainly not meant to be commical, it is meant to bring awareness to the situation in an obvious way ... i.e. THIS is what the Pope should be doing, and here are some of the scriptures which support a change of heart and policy

I don't have the data for Europe but can we see a .........um.........trend in that graph of the US stats?

What would you say that graph shows?

You're right!

It clearly shows that the Church has done nothing and continues to sweep this issue under the carpet.

You were totally wrong to write this as though it were true, I don’t like the claim of “bringing awareness” either.

And now he thinks Islam is better - more transparent and honest! With the Taliban and other Muslims sodomy of boys a cultural tradition of longstanding! In India one of the (many) reasons Muslims was hated by the Hindus was the Muslims’ habit of pederasty. In addition to the rape, slaughter/genocide and looting, of course.

Islam, though very evil, didn’t cover it up. It was part of their evil culture. Just like the covering up of abuse is part of the Catholic culture.

The article is certainly not meant to be commical,

Good. As humor, it's an abject failure.

THIS is what the Pope should be doing,

Thank you for your sage advice. I also thank the democRat Party and its minions in the media for all their sage advice regarding which politicians the Republican Party should support.

Perhaps folks should learn the truth about what the Church in general and the Pope in particular are actually doing before pontificating on the matter. They would appear less ridiculous if they did so.

Accusing me of defending child-molesting faggots certainly is a falsehood.

Wow, great argument. “We don’t molest as much as we used to!”

Here are some recent cases:

I don't see any "perps" in that article.

Do you?

Be specific, both as to the identity of the "perps", and the offense committed.

Be careful.

There's that whole Eighth Commandment (Ninth, by Eastern Orthodox reckoning). It's not merely a suggestion ...

I figured you wouldn't be man enough to admit that the Church is acting on this issue. You can't do it, can you? You've thrown out so much falsehood and slander that now you can't back down.

Wow, great argument. “We don’t molest as much as we used to!”

Well that's true. However, that's not the argument.

You have persistently and falsely accused the Church of doing nothing and that graph shows your accusations to be false. The Church is doing something, that graph shows it but you can't admit it.

That is the argument!

Here are some recent cases:

Straw man.

Nobody is denying that there are none. The graph I posted shows that.

I guess until the number hits zero we'll still have the incoming, right? Or maybe that will be taken as evidence that we're hiding something because it's almost humanly impossible to eliminate it entirely.

Which is it?

To put the stats in context:

“DOD Releases Annual Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Report

The Department of Defense today released the fiscal 2009 Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military.

In fiscal 2009, a total of 3,230 restricted and unrestricted reports of sexual assault were filed, involving military members as either victims or subjects, which is an 11 percent increase from fiscal 2008. There were 714 restricted reports filed in fiscal 2009. Under the restricted (confidential) reporting option, service members may choose to obtain medical, mental health care and other services without becoming involved in the military criminal justice process. This year, 123 victims converted their reports from restricted to unrestricted, which is included in the overall total of 2,516 unrestricted reports.”

Maybe you should spend some time removing the log from your eye.

We don't do FEAR over here - it is so refreshing.

It took us a while to grow up but now in the 21st century we are pretty much fear free and do not believe in myths. Any entrepreneurial spirit could really make out big time by running holiday trips to see the strange people who worship trees, rivers, rocks, golden calfs, bones, dust, triangles, crosses, and popes.

As to their beliefs that would really be a Devine comedy.

Satan is pillar of rock in Saudi Arabia but among some, the NY Times is the great Satan. The number of Satans and where they reside really depends upon where you are and who you talk to.

If you talk to The Rev. Gabriele Amorth, the man who has served as the Vatican's chief exorcist for 25 years, he says the signs are there: The devil has infiltrated St. Peter's. When one speaks of 'the smoke of Satan' in the holy rooms, it is all true -- including these latest stories of violence and pedophilia," Amorth was cited as saying by The Times of London. The smoke of Satan references a phrase coined by Pope Paul VI.

The Vatican, according to Amorth, was also home to "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus and bishops who are linked to the demon."

I have a couple of candidates for Cardinal - they will believe anything. :)
