The new Obamacare legislation that was forced on unwilling Americans this week specifically mandates that we all purchase health insurance. That is, unless you don't believe in that sort of thing. That's right, the current health care bill contains a clause which exempts certain individuals form the requirements and penalties set forth in it.
" EXEMPTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.In the case of an individual who is seeking an exemption certificate under section 1311(d)(4)(H) from any requirement or penalty imposed by section 5000A, the following information:
In the case of an individual seeking exemption based on the individuals status as a member of an exempt religious sect or division, as a member of a health care sharing ministry, as an Indian, or as an individual eligible for a hardship exemption, such information as the Secretary shall prescribe."

Well, then. It looks like Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox members, and others who were party to The Manhatten Declaration, should also be exempt.
jizya
The ranks of muslims and Amish are going to skyrocket!
If this legislation had been sponsored by a GOP Congress and POTUS - the atheists would have a field day.
Wonder if the ACLU will put the kabosh on this Section?
Holding my breath and my burkha!!!!!
ping!
Because I just luuuuuv diversity I will be a Muslim one day per year. April 15th.
I’m Amish also, from a reformed congregation.. something tells me that the Reformed Amish Roman Episcopal Lutheran Presbyterian (Did I leave anybody out ?)Church is about to see a phenomenal expansion

So....we can start a new religion based on opposition to Obamacare? Why not?
Anyone know if the slightly-less-strict branches of the Mennonite church are allowed the same exemptions as the Amish?
I have listed three Christian organizations that are health sharing ministry’s in post #22.
I am against abortion unless it is a democrat then i entirely pro choice and would probably encourage it
Maybe they will be exempt from the coverage but not the taxes.
If I made up a Christians for Allah bumper sticker, could that get me an excemption?
Where I’m moving, I’ll be buying a lot of my dry goods at the local Amish market. I’ll have to check their beliefs. Maybe I can just claim to be Amish.
The muslim thing would not work though.
I’ve never heard of them getting an exemption from car insurance. They have to do it, so they accept it. So any Muslim waiver in this bill is just bowing down to them.
Looks like a lot of knee-jerking going on here. From what I’ve learned about health care sharing ministries that are said to be exempt, the title of this thread could easily be “Christians Exempt From ObamaCare”.
Looks like an avenue that can be used to make this travesty as complex and difficult to implement as possible. We are ALL members of exempted classes and should file as such. And when they deny one claim file another using a different expempted class.
I hereby am starting a new religion. It will be called
“The Church of the Healing All Manner of Sickness and Every Infirmity”-
Here our religion expressly forbids use of any government funds for staying healthy based upon Matthew 4, 23-25; 6, 25, Proverbs 4,22:
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom: and healing all manner of sickness and every infirmity, among the people. 24 And his fame went throughout all Syria, and they presented to him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and such as were possessed by devils, and lunatics, and those that had the palsy, and he cured them” —
Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” —
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” —
“My son, hearken to my words, and incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart: 22 For they are life to those that find them, and health to all flesh.”
Where do I file?
That is interesting, perhaps I’ll be looking into joining one... You’ve got to admit, that it is still a bit troubling that Muslims and other religions can claim exemption simply by being a member of said religion; meanwhile Christians have to jump through hoops
