Brazil rebuffs US, says it will go own way on Iran

BRASILIA, Brazil – Brazil vowed Wednesday not to “bow down” to gathering international pressure to impose new economic penalties on Iran over its nuclear program if further negotiations might be fruitful.

With visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton standing beside him, Brazil’s foreign minister said his country is concerned about Iran’s nuclear intentions.

But Foreign Minister Celso Amorim (SELL-so ah-more-EEM) says Brazil will make its own decision on Iran.

THE GIANT NO ONE SEES: RED REVOLUTION COMES TO “GREEN GIANT” BRAZIL

SNIPPET: “Lula and Chavez have established a “strategic relationship,” and recently agreed upon a joint Brazilian-Venezuelan oil venture worth billions of dollars. Lula and Chavez have joined with Daniel Ortega, the returned Nicaraguan Marxist dictator, to form an anti-U.S. Latin American military alliance - all with Russian assistance - funded by the region’s abundant oil reserves.

Brazil is engaged in its own arms build-up and Lula is determined that Brazil will become at least a first-rate regional power. Unfortunately, Lula is establishing Brazil as an anti-American military power by aligning with nations hostile or potentially hostile to the U.S. Lula has developed close ties with not only Chavez, but also with his political clones, Evo Morales in Bolivia, and Rafael Correa in Ecuador.

Lula supports the international pariah, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and defends the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop a nuclear capability. Iran has expressed its willingness to share its atomic technology with Brazil - as well as with Venezuela.”

Chavez is bff with Iran, too.

Chavez worries me to no end, he’s crazy and he’s fairly close.

King Chaos Obama has to be the WORST leader we could have elected during these times.

I never, ever worried like this under any other President.

From the WSJ back on August 18, 2009:

Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling
Too bad it's not in U.S. waters.

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil. The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan. The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas. But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.

Obamalamadingdong snubbed again......

Barack Hussein Obama has so far proven to be a less than worthy for the US (foreign & domestic policies). Not a single one of his *pet* policies have come to fruition, definitely not with much positive results so far. Unless he can literally pull a rabbit out of a hat, he will fail.

Obama is an inexperienced, ambitious idealist, who came to power based on his oratory/marketing ability, riding on some American public’s dissatisfaction with the previous administration. But w/out substance. He has not delivered so far. If his failures continue until end of 2010, I’d say he should be very much a one term president.

Personally, as much as I value the US-Australia alliance, I am glad Obama’s visit to Australia is now apparently cut down to less than 24 hrs (contained only in Canberra). This is a wrong time for his visit. Australian taxpayers should not be footing the bill nor be subjected to the inconvenience.
