Never Long Enough
Self - Vanity | March 12, 209 | Brytani

For anyone who knows me and hubby Rafterman (Dave) personally or has ever clicked on my profile knows, to me, my dogs are furry children.

Almost 12 years ago we rescued a beautiful Rottweiler,Sasha, from certain death at the Miami Humane Society. She was about two years old at time and from the minute we saw her, we knew she was meant to come home with us.

A few months ago we learned she had developed pancreatitis which was causing her liver to shut down. We immediately began aggressive treatment. We had a few close calls but over time there was steady improvement. We reached the point of stabilizing treatment and assuring she was comfortable and not in pain. This past Tuesday she had blood work performed and everything was looking good.

Last night, she took a downturn and passed away around 5am this morning. Knowing she had serious health problems didn't make it easier or lessen the shock.

Sasha was one of the sweetest, happiest, smartest, protective (especially with me), funniest and loving dogs I've ever had.

We have dozens of pictures of her smiling; we'd tell her to smile and her eyes would dance and she'd literally smile. We'd tell her to "Hula Dance" and she'd wiggle her little nub and hips; all the funny things that dogs do that only make you love them even more and only dog parents really understand.

Thankfully, what I had planned to do today can be put off. Tears keep popping up and I'm sure will continue off and on for a while. I'm even more thankful we have our Cocker Spaniel, Petey, so the normal daily routine of taking care of our dogs will still be there; only with one missing.

They never live long enough.

Sasha "Beasite Dog" we'll miss you.....

You always knew when I was sad
You ran to me and made me glad
You were my loving friend right from the start
You left your paw prints on my heart

My sympathy and understanding. I still miss my little bundle of honey-colored silk, black button eyes and nose, twining around my ankles. But I'm thankful she was a part of my life for 15 years......and I'm sure you feel the same about your dear Sasha.

We feel so bad for you and Dave, knowing what you’ve been through. They become family, our children, relying on us for everything, and it’s very hard on us when we lose our beloved family members. We’ll say a prayer or two for you both.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby.

I cannot imagine what you are feeling and I won’t allow myself. I cannot.

God Bless You. Your doggy will always be with you because they are so loyal, they won’t leave you even in death.

Hugs from PA,

Pat

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

Dave and I keep having a moments of tears, then laughter talking about Sasha, then more tears as we realize just how much we will miss her. We appreciate all your prayers, kind words and thoughts. It does make things easier.

All of you who have shared how much you hurt and still miss your furry kids; we share your pain and pray that time makes it easier.

Hugs to everyone from the both of us....

It funny that you should use those words. For the last couple of years I have told every bride and groom at every wedding that I have attended that if you do this whole marriage thing well, it won’t matter how long you have together, it won’t be enough.

Wonderful advice for those about to marry and even to those who have been together for years. When you love someone with all of your heart there is never enough time, life is way to short.

I’ve always felt God gives to many people the ability to completely fall in love with animals. To literally give them our hearts. He does this to teach us how precious life really is.

Animals lovers will have many parts of our hearts broken as our furry kids leave us after only a few short years. All the more reason to cherish those we love and thank the good Lord for every day He gives us with those we have much more time with.
