I too got the Census letter informing me that I would be getting a Census letter next week. The waste and futility of participating, as well as the perversion of the constitutional purpose of the Census has me down, but Scott Johnson over at Power Line and Mark Krikorian over at The Corner have a bright idea:
Writes Scott:
In Letter III of his Letters From an America Farmer (1782), J. Hector St. John De Crevecoeur famously asked: "What then is the American, this new man?" He answered: "He is an American, who, leaving behind him all his ancient prejudices and manners, receives new ones from the new mode of life he has embraced, the new government he obeys, and the new rank he holds. He has become an American by being received in the broad lap of our great Alma Mater. Here individuals of all races are melted into a new race of man, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world. Americans are the western pilgrims." And Mark:
Fully one-quarter of the space on this year's form is taken up with questions of race and ethnicity, which are clearly illegitimate and none of the government's business (despite the New York Times' assurances to the contrary on today's editorial page). So until we succeed in building the needed wall of separation between race and state, I have a proposal. ... [W]e should answer Question 9 by checking the last option "Some other race" and writing in "American." It's a truthful answer but at the same time is a way for ordinary citizens to express their rejection of unconstitutional racial classification schemes. In fact, "American" was the plurality ancestry selection for respondents to the 2000 census in four states and several hundred counties.

I am an American. So -- "Some other race" -- "American." Pass it on.
Sounds good enough for me then.
I’ve always put my race as “HUMAN” but every now and then I consider going with “Northamerican-American”.
I like this statement:
Other:
American - Natural Born Citizen x5
The rest - none of your business
I’m in a black mood.
The letter saying the ‘stimulous’ check was coming really ticked me off too.. as did the check itself! What a freakin’ waste!
I received my neighbor’s stimulus check by mistake. I noticed it upon opening the envelope. I delivered it by hand. And then got worried as it took over 2 more weeks for my own check to arrive (wondering if it too had been misdelivered).
It may not have benefitted my bottom line, but I don’t want “my” check to go to some other home “randomly” all the same.
To not want to pay for goodies that you or your children are barred from would be “racist.” God save us from that word.
It only matters if you let it. I've been called every name in the book just about. I guess over the years I've just become oblivious to it.
As for my kids though, we intend to raise them to have no whitey guilt whatsoever. I will do everything I possibly can to instill in them the notion that there is never a time for which they should feel responsible for or obligated to fix wrongs that they had no hand in creating.
My first instinct is to return it marked "incorrect address, return to sender", and see what happens.
I did that on the last census ten years ago. Gonna do it again this year.
6, American. That’s all they get
What will happen if all you tell them is how many people live in your house?
Got the letter announcing another letter, too. Good thing the commercial junk mail senders don’t do it!
Don’t know. But why would they need to know anything else?
Now for millions more flummoxed by the psychopaths and their holy “word.”
My race?
HUMAN ;-)
