Cubans are frequently Repubs and they take a lot of heat from Demos who think that because they are Hispanic they should stay on the plantation.
I've heard Mark Levin refer to the 'coconuts' in Congress on more than one occasion, but it was in a general context, similar to calling them 'stupid' or 'dopey'.
I think we may be reading a little too much into Deutsch's comment, but given the Left's track record with regard to minority conservatives, it wouldn't surprise me if he actually meant it as some kind of ethnic slur.
Yep, the left’s obsession with race, gender, age...anything that divides us.
The left is trying to say that Hispanics are brown...we must fight against that stupidity. Hispanics are white, blacks, asian, etc, etc. Hispanic is a word that refers to ethnicity/culture but not race.
The majority of Hispanics are conservatives and love this country. Some Hispanics are fooled by the terms “Democratic,” “liberal,” and/or ignore the historical facts.
Coconut - brown on the outside, white on the inside.
Oreo - black.....
Apple - red ... (Native American)
Banana - yellow .... (Asian)
Terms have been around for a long time (50 years or so).
