Sarah Palin coming to Illinois; Valerie Jarrett on Sarah Palin ("people tired of being made fun of")

Will Sarah Palin play in Peoria? Except for a brief stop in Chicago to tape an Oprah Winfrey show last November, Palin's first public appearance in Illinois will be April 17 in Washington, a town of about 14,000 near Peoria.

The local community center -- called Five Points Washington -- booked Palin for a speech and a dinner to raise money for a parking lot, youth scholarships and other projects. The 1,000 tickets sold out in a day. With VIP receptions thrown in, the center's gross -- according to my calculations -- should be about $235,000, minus Palin's fee, which is in the $100,000 ballpark.

Why Palin? "I think she has something to say," Washington Mayor Gary Manier says.

Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee who quit her job as Alaska governor, never made it to Illinois during the presidential campaign because President Obama had a lock on his adopted home state. It would have been a waste of time for the McCain-Palin ticket.

Now, she's out hawking her book Going Rogue, offering analysis on Fox News and making speeches, recently keynoting the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville, where she opened with a cheery, "Happy Birthday, Ronald Reagan."

Manier says the Palin booking came out of a conversation he had with John Morris, an executive at Eureka College's Ronald Reagan Museum, a tribute to the school's most famous alum.

At you can say they are consistent, they hate the fact that Sarah can make 100k per speech. That must really rub them the wrong way, because they keep bringing it up. Never were that worried when Gore was selling his snake-oil, were they.

I have one question for lynn Sweet.

When a Liberal is pushing a book he/she has recently written, do you refer to that behavior as “hawking”? Or do you reserve your pejorative descriptions for the activities of Republicans?

Lynn Sweet is just a carny shill for the Obama Chicago machine. If she had any integrity, she'd just come out and admit it. Then again, if she had any integrity, she wouldn't be a lamestream media 'journalist', either.

Considering Sarah Palin's largess of late and due to the reason they're trying to raise money, it would not surprise me in the least to learn that she turns around and gives her fee to the community center's cause.

Never heard of her, but one brief encounter with her writing style is enough for me to know who she is.

Never heard of her”

She is the journalist who asked that planted question about Prof Henry Loius Gates’s encounter with the police.
0bozo thought he would sound cute calling the police “stupid”. Backfired on him big time.

And we know why Palin gets $100,000 per speech, because she can. :-)

Liberals just hate that she has that kind of star power.

"She is the journalist . . ."

Media puke, yes. Journalist, no. But now I remember. I'll forget her again. Highly forgettable. Thanks.

I wouldn’t if I were Palin. She earned her paycheck, she is entitled to keep it.

What are you a democrat? Gov. Palin has earned every penny she’s paid and no one should try to shame her into giving it back to whatever cause she’s booked for.

Aww, Jarrett thinks people are tired of being made fun of. How nice. She has no problem, though, I am sure, with all of the mockery that Palin faces.

If I was Sarah, I’d halve my fee or donate it in those terribly impacted “blue states” like Michigan and Illinois

Eureka took a pass but the board at Five Points — whose vice chairman is Steve Brown, the spokesman for Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois — used the Eureka opening to land her.

I live in Illinois, and I think that Sen. McCain is too liberal.

You'd think so, but the reality is that Madigan, and those who serve him, are indestructible and untouchable. He controls all of the state money outside of Chicago, ALL of it. EVERYTHING GOES THROUGH MADIGAN.

Someone bitches about it, and they'll see their district or organization panhandling for money for quite some time. The list of folks on the Left in Illinois who've crossed Madigan and remained standing is about as long as the list of people who've survived Space Shuttle explosions.

Brown, and his boss Madigan, won't hear a peep about it, and will in fact probably get enjoy a nice pay day from it - though we won't directly see how.

Trust me, neither of these guys is quaking in their boots.
