Today, the Brady Campaign came out with their state scorecard for 2009. As it was hard to find a compilation of the state scores for comparison purposes, I have assembled the one below. While my own state, Arizona, does pretty well with a score of 2, we have some legislative initiatives in the works that I hope will bring us even with Utah, which has the top score of 0. Here is the Brady scorecard:
AK 2
AL 2
AR 4
AZ 2
CA 79
CO 15
CT 53
DE 21
FL 6
GA 8
HI 42
IA 14
ID 2
IL 28
IN 6
KS 7
KY 2
LA 2
MA 54
MD 52
ME 11
MI 23
MN 15
MO 4
MS 6
MT 4
NC 19
ND 4
NE 8
NH 9
NJ 73
NM 4
NV 9
NY 50
OH 11
OK 2
OR 17
PA 25
RI 45
SC 16
SD 4
TN 8
TX 9
UT 0
VA 17
VT 8
WA 17
WI 10
WY 10
WV 4
The Brady Campaign has a method to their madness, as they seem to assign more points to those states that are moving the fastest to infringe on the Second Amendment.
Still, it is of some interest to those who believe in the Constitution to see if their state is in the top ranks (lower points) as considered by the Brady campaign. Arizona is doing well, but we can do better!
MS #6
Brother Haley needs to get on it!
The People's Republic of California - making it safe for criminals.
A 4? I wanted a 0. (And not the one in the WH)
C’mon Colorado. You can do better. Lower!
Vermont is the only far left state in single digits. If we could manage to vote Philadelphia out of the Commonwealth, I think we could get there too.
Damn Utah! Tied for second!
Texas is way too high
Woo hoo! Alabama at 2!
And the state I happily fled a year ago, Illinois, a 28.
I was sure it would be in the California range. I'm sure the fine Illinois legislature is working to correct that.
I would have thought the PRNJ would be at the bottom, but Kalifornia beat them out. Both states have big, big problems.
Well, Texas does not allow open carry in public for handguns, it could use a better preemption statute, and it still has quite a few places that it bans carry of concealed guns from.
“MS #6
Brother Haley needs to get on it!”
The numbers are ratings, not rankings. From a gun rights perspective lower numbers are better. 6 is pretty good score.
Just eyeballing the ratings, there seems to be a strong correlation between high Brady scores and high rates of violent crime and vice versa.
We're #1!
We're #1!
We're #1!
PA....25??????
A shall issue state, which allows you to carry while in bars. Heck, you can even drink while in bars!
Printing is fine.
Open Carry is fine.
Paperwork between father and son or vice versa for transferring guns? Not required.
I would argue PA has the best gun laws out there.
Especially our Constitution:
Right to Bear Arms Section 21.
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
It is hard to see into the mind of irrationality.
I’m right there with you - PA isone of the tops
I guess it’s a good thing if the Brady campaign thinks we have bad laws;-)
The one bad thing is that PA did have more mayors tan any other state who were members of MAIG. They can all GTH.
