Dick Cheney – Obama's worst nightmare
Telegraph Blogs (U.K.) ^ | February 14, 2010 | Nile Gardiner

Former Vice President Dick Cheney stormed the beachheads of the liberal US media again today with a fiery performance on ABC’s This Week. He offered a stinging rebuke to current VP Joe Biden’s ludicrous claim that Iraq may end up as one of Barack Obama’s “great achievements”, as well as blistering criticism of the Obama administration’s handling of terrorist suspects. He also launched a strike on Biden’s recent comment that another 9/11 scale attack was “unlikely.”

“I just think that’s just dead wrong. I think the biggest threat the United States faces today is the possibility of another 9/11 with a nuclear weapon or a biological agent of some kind. And I think al Qaeda is out there — even as we meet — trying to do that. You have to consider it as a war. You have to consider it as something we may have to deal with tomorrow. You don’t want the vice president of the United States running around saying, ‘Oh, it’s not likely going to happen.’”

The Daily Telegraph was right to name Cheney America’s most influential conservative in its recent ranking of the top 100. He was the first opposition figure of weight to seriously dent Barack Obama on national security issues when he unleashed a ferocious attack on the president’s policies last May in a major speech at The American Enterprise Institute. The speech was significant, because it sparked a largely successful counter-offensive against the Obama administration’s weak-kneed counter-terror strategy and dominated media coverage just after Obama gave a far less impressive address on the same issue across town at The National Archives.

As I wrote at the time:

“There is something very reassuring about a leader who never apologizes for America’s actions, possesses no self-doubts about defending his country, and who believes his

0bama is grasping for “achievements”, even to the point of trying to steal some from the Bush/ Cheney administration. He’s quickly finding out that while usurping the Presidency, he doesn’t get affirmative action “passes” and voting “present” is not an option.

Up on Drudge on the right side there is an article...Flashback. You can hear Biden insisting that we had to go to war against Saddam Hussein.......

If anyone knows how to bring that here to FR it would be great.

Dick Cheney is a true American. He has taken all of the opposition and hatred from the left with dignity and is still telling it like it is.

There is something very reassuring about a leader who never apologizes for America’s actions, possesses no self-doubts about defending his country, and who believes his nation must do what is necessary to crush al-Qaeda.

Would that we had such a man as President.

I thought it was interesting when Biden was defending the administration by saying “we are doing exactly what Bush did.”

Except Bush would not have apologized to our adversaries, shunned our allies, 'closed' GITMO, moved terrorist trials to civilian courts, etc. This Administration has zero credibility.

I object to your use of the term "usurping". He was elected, and we would do well to remember how foolish and short sighted the electorate can be. Everyone here seems excited about the coming conservative tsunami in the 2010 elections, just remember we're counting on the same people who elected Obama, a man with no documented past, has a marxist America hating preacher who Obama described as his "spiritual advisor", stated he wanted to "spread the wealth around", and had the most liberal voting record in the Senate, ahead of Ted Kennedy and Bernie Saunders (Saunders, the admitted socialist!) because they thought he was some sort of moderate. Seriously. Because the TV news told them so.

We cannot simply assume these same people will be on our side this time, we have to remain dilligent or they won't be.

Great link. Joe Biden is an instinctual contrarian. That way, if anything goes wrong (or even only 98% right), he can beat his chest and say “I told you so.” From his Senate perch, this was a no-lose proposition, as things rarely go 100% right, so he always could take the line “well, if they had listened to me...” His longwindedness helped ensure that even when he made predictions that turned out wrong, there was always some little nugget of apparent truth in what he would say—much like “mind reader” who tosses out so many clues that one is bound to hit the mark.

Of course, now that he’s in the executive branch, he’s taken his foolishness to a brand new level, boldly making predictions that actually are falsifiable. I think he will come to rue the day he made his bold prediction about no more 9-11’s. Of course, terrorists could hijack a plane on 9/11/2010 and fly it into the Sears Tower, causing 10,000 deaths and Biden likely would stand by his prediction on grounds that they didn’t attack NYC! In the words of Bill O’Reilly, the man is a loon.

I object to your use of the term "usurping".

Object all you want, but until he presents VALID documentation that he is qualified under The Constitution for the office he is in, I will, as is my right, continue to refer to his as a usurper.

I’m always amused by leftists fulminations at the mere thought of good and evil. As if people who beat and kill girls and women for not obeying some screwy religious doctrine are not evil. Or the same fanatics who blow up marketplaces killing indiscriminately anyone unfortunate enough to be there. There is evil, and it exists in the form of radical Islamism. Deep down, libs know conservatives are right about the subject. They just can’t publicly admit it.

Probably a lot of younger people have never heard of her.

I remember watching her ice skate when I was a kid.
