I just wanted to brag about my daughter today. She won her school spelling bee today. What is very remarkable is that she's only in the third grade and beat all the fourth and fifth graders. Her picture is going to be in our town's newspaper, as well.
She's following in her dad's footsteps, I guess. ;-) I won 2 spelling bees (7th and 8th grade) when I was in school. She's a chip off the old block (vicariously bragging, sorry!) and we are all so very proud of her.
BTW, She's in the gifted program at her school. Her accomplishments keep mounting.

My now-25 year-old daughter wanted to compete in her middle school spelling bee so badly she made us take her to school with a fresh cast on her leg from a broken ankle.
P.S. She won.

I am sure she could, but I wouldn't be the best teacher. ;-) I have a handgun but have never been hunting. I like to Fish, though, and she can do that too. :-)

Indeed. She studied hard all last week and it isn't afraid to 'earn' anything. All of our children are like this. This is how we raise them. They are not bitter or envious. In Barack Obama's world, she would have to give half the money her grandma gave her for winning to some kid who didn't work as hard. There weren't trophies for everyone who participated, either. Only 2 trophies and she got the biggest one. She has a cousin in the fifth grade and he took 9th place, but was a really good sport and told her he was very proud of her and was bragging about her to his friends. All of my children will probably grow up to be Conservatives because they have the right values, they work hard and they love their country. Even if they didn't turn out to be like Mom and Dad, we would love them anyway.

What was the winning word?
The word her runner-up misspelled was 'underrated.' Her opponent left out an 'r.' Emmy spelled this one correctly and then spelled 'knowledge' for the win.
