One Hell of a Speech (Buckley Barf Alert!)
The Daily Beast ^ | January 28, 2010 | Christopher Buckley

Posted on 01/28/2010 9:35:18 AM PST by Cheap_Hessian

Obama didn’t deliver a speech so much as a symphony, calling for nukes and zapping the Supremes; thanks for the performance, Mr. President.

It is hard, indeed almost impossible, not to like Mr. Obama. In recent weeks, I’ve tried—tried my best. But Wednesday night he made it virtually impossible. Even discounting the perhaps 40 percent of the speech that consisted of the usual bromides and platitudes, even the most hardened skeptic must admit—the son of gun gives one hell of a speech.

My personal takeaway was his endorsement of nuclear power. So many of our problems—specifically, our 70 percent importation of oil from horrid desert regimes—could be eliminated if we embraced the atom.

How did this pansy-ass ever work for his dad’s publication?

My personal takeaway was his endorsement of nuclear power.

Good for him. The GOP needs to get out on front of this; the Dems will pwn them on energy policy if they don't.

Didn’t you learn the first time Mr. Buckley. Every one ‘takes something’ away from this guy and ends up getting nothing.

Rush's monologue blows the SOTU away. He's bringing tears to my eyes.

Thanks, Rush.

He must be gay:
“It is hard, indeed almost impossible, not to like Mr. Obama.”
And Jay Nordlinger was gushing about how much he’d like to play golf with The One.
Guess I cancel NR again.

It was a great campaign speech. Lacked direction and fortitude. Also, Obama is no Reagan.

Let me sum up Chris' response.

"I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more obama."

If Chris Buckley interpreted what Obama said as an "endorsement" of nuclear power, he's too dumb to have ever worked for his father's publication.

It was an obvious throw-away, a disposable little chew toy tossed to the Republicans to distract them from his larger energy agenda of having the Federal government subsidize favored "green" technologies. Which means, of course, picking winners and losers among companies rather than forcing them to risk their own capital in support of their chosen business models and technologies.

And if history is any guide (and it is), Uncle Sam's taxpayer-dollar handouts will grace only those companies with a proven record of donating generously to the political party in power.

Did you guys notice the two cops who shot Nidal Hassan were sitting next to M. Obama? Not one word mentioned by The One though. Smoke and mirrors... appeasement.

Is there something about the name Chris that makes guys named that as dopey as Suzanne Somers and eager for some sort of union with Obama?

I think he must resent his father deeply. It almost seems like he’s being spiteful.

For my purposes, Obama’s speech last night was perfect. He said just about exactly what I expected (who could have anticipated he'd switch to the drill, baby, drill mentality) and exactly what I was hoping for. You see, I want his socialist agenda to go down in flames fighting to the bitter end, not slinking back into the woodwork only to reemerge in a generation or two claiming that Obama surrendered too quickly and it's time to really try it this time. I want the memory of the utter rejection of his philosophy emblazoned in the minds of every voter in this country whether they agree with it or not. I want him to shoot his wad, leaving nothing on the table to be attempted again, at least until the inevitable generational amnesia sets in. I want to see that arrogant smirk wiped off his face never to be seen again. I want the body language to become meek and submissive. In other words, I want to see the man who tried to destroy my country, the man who had every opportunity to do good things for the U.S. and pissed them away, broken and inert along with his evil socialist philosophy.

Really? I have no problem NOT liking him. In fact, I intensely dislike him.

The GOP needs to get out on front of this

They're not? Didnt Obama-liar recently endorse Reid's move to not store waste in Yucca Mountain? Where should they put it, in your pickup truck?

Remember, Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth and means nothing, and everything. To think he is going to promote nuclear power through the Executive Branch is delusional. No followup expected here..
