Welfare Recipients Upset By Disabled Workers (Satire)

Add the millions of productive disabled workers to the list of gripes that the millions of unproductive, able-bodied Welfare recipients have against society.

"It's not fair," said Billy Montaine, an Altoona welfare recipient, as he watches a paraplegic worker Don McCain program a computer by blowing into a tube. "What a show off."

Montaine, who's a third-generation welfare beneficiary, said that McCain and people like him cause uncomfortable feelings, which may be pangs of guilt.

"I can't be weighed down by a conscience," said Montaine. "I got beers to drink and ladies to romance. They're impinging on my wants and needs and it's not fair!"

RE :”Add the millions of productive disabled workers to the list of gripes..

Productive disabled workers’ ??? Does that make any sense to you (anyone) ?

OHHH, I get it, social security disability is good ‘Republican welfare’, but that other aid is bad ‘democrat welfare’... Except when those on the ‘democrat welfare’ realize ‘republican welfare’ pays much better and figure out how to qualify and get on it, which they have.

Back in 1993 my early Rush days a Ross Perot voter tried to warn me that republicans want their own welfare increased, while Rush was teaching me only those liberals (democrats) want (unconstitutional) government social spending

Yes, I have.
Have you ever seen a worker with a physical or mental disability working? It’s pretty inspiring. The story never mentions Social Security.
I guess not having a sense of humor is a handicap, too.

Excactly.
My company outsources certain packaging operations to the local disabled employer near everyone of our plants.

We ship them the material, and it comes back packaged 100% to spec.

I drive by welfare scumbags on my way to visit these employees.

While I would never argue that many don’t abuse the various welfare and disability programs (they do!), I take issue with your implication that disabled people can’t be productive.

There are many productive disabled workers. For one example, my husband works with a quadriplegic. He types in computer code using a “stick” he holds in his mouth. My husband says he is an excellent programmer and writes very efficient code. Typing with his mouth is so laborious that he really thinks through his code before writing it. This is in contrast to many programmers who rapidly churn out code that they only half understand.

Yes, this man needs special help. Our county’s disabled transportation service takes him to and from work each day. An aide comes to work at lunchtime to feed him. He has an aide with him all the time at home. I don’t know how much of this he pays for, how much is paid by his insurance, and how much is paid by the rest of us through government agencies.

He was injured as a young man (a hunting accident, IIRC) yet instead of giving up because he “can’t” work, he owns his own home and programs combat control systems for the Navy.

Now...if he gets federal help, you can certainly argue that the source is unconstitutional - that all welfare should come from state and local sources. I agree that the “general welfare” clause has been stretched beyond all recognition.

But please be aware that there are many good people out there who work hard to be productive and contribute to society despite their disabilities. They don’t deserve your scorn - reserve that for deadbeats who choose not to work.

Sorry, the excerpt didn't make it clear the article was about the 'disabled working' so I got off on a (unrelated ) pet peeve of mine instead.

I get your point, many disabled really want to work instead on being on welfare. They swim upstream of all those looking for ways to get on paid disability (watch those court TV shows.)

I do have issues with the Americans with Disabilities act, but I think I will save them for another thread and leave you be.

Actually a very similar story. I was at a restaurant and a mentally challenged fella was taking orders. A well-known Welfarian continually gave the guy a bunch of crap.
Hence the satire.

Man, I hate to tell you this, but this is exactly what this satire’s about.

The Onion, of all places, had a wonderfully funny “article” about a mentally-challenged kid who worked at a fast food restaurant.

The handicapped kid was the best employee. He was constantly picking up the slack for the teenage employees.

Satire.
But, in all humor, there is truth.
