I enjoy a good romantic comedy, however my bar for good in that genre is set pretty high. Despite that, writer/director Nancy Myers clears this bar with It's Complicated. In it she continues to explore the theme of courting in the older set which made her previous film, Something's Gotta Give, a success.
Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin play Jane and Jake. They've been divorced for ten years. Their relationship is polite, but distant. Jake is remarried to Agness, played by Lake Bell, the much younger woman for whom he left Jane. One of Jane and Jake's three children is getting married and the two find themselves unknowingly booked at the same hotel. The night before Jane is to head home, she runs into Jake, alone, at the hotel restaurant. Agness had to leave earlier when her spoiled brat of a son, who incidentally is not Jake's son, got sick. Jane and Jake agree to have dinner together instead of sitting at separate tables. They eat. They drink. They reminisce. They drink. They laugh. They have a little too much to drink and the former wife finds herself the current other woman.

If I want to watch two very old, very wrinkled, very sloppy reptiles have sex, I’ll go over to the Philly Zoo and look at the Galapagos turtles mating.
I like the “hammer and sickles” rating system.
Chick flick. I’ll pass.
Interesting......I hated “Something’s Gotta Give” but I did like that Bette Midler movie, the one where she and her ex hook up at their daughter’s wedding....what the heck was the title?
I was thinking of checking this one out.
I also liked the remake of “The Women” although I thought Jada Pinkett Smith’s role was gratuitous and she sucks on screen.
Streep was good as always. Alec Baldwin is terrific in it if you can put aside the fact he’s a leftist ahole in real life. Steve Martin was not so good. Bottom line it kept my interest.
Not only that, but the previews I saw of the movie made it look polished to the point of being un-funny.....not even cute. Just dumb.
Cool site, thanks for posting. I actually want to see this movie - even though Alec Baldwin is a leftist nutbag he is very funny. 30 Rock is one of the best comedy shows on TV.
>Chick flick. Ill pass.
Believe me. I’m doing my utmost best not to be emasculated since I was ‘forced’ by my GF to watch Confessions of a Shopaholic’ because she threatened no sex and she has the same look now because her other friends are on vacation during the holidays.
Alec Baldwin... I would not spend a dime to watch anything with that puss bag of hot air in it!
Deliberately subjecting ones eyes and ears to that kind of punishment can only be construed as masochistic.
I’m not on a high horse or anything, but when I saw the previews I thought, “Oh, another story about adultery.”
All we need to do is watch the news every night to be subjected to that.
Meryl Streep is to acting what the Hummer was to automobiles.
It always amazes me that any scenery in her vicinity remains unchewed.
I thought he moved to France
Same here, especially one that makes it seem cute.
Good thing I read this. Now I know I can’t take my 2nd wife who is 8 years younger to see this. Her imagination would go into overdrive.
Something’s Gotta Give is a bizarre senior female fantasy where Jack Nicholson chooses the neurotic bag of bones Diane Keaton over a nubile model.
Jack sold out for the pay check.
It is a pleasant turn of nature that fit, financially secure males enjoy the button spot late in life.
“Meryl Streep”
I first saw Streep on stage in the 70s when she was at the Yale Rep.
For all accolades she has received, she’s like DeNiro and has played the same character over and over and over.

Actually, I think it is over-the-top-and-over... ;)
You need to kick your GF to the street. Sex as a weapon is never, ever a healthy thing in a relationship. It won't get better for you if you marry her.
