Scott Brown Winning The Online Battle

There is Scott Brown the Senate candidate in Massachusetts, and there is Scott Brown, the musician in New Zealand. They each have Twitter accounts, but the Scott Brown from Down Under laid claim to @ScottBrown first, and the Senate candidate had to resort to @ScottBrownMA.

As the Boston Globe reports, in the past few days, as @ScottBrownMA has gained momentum through bloggers and twitterers and other social media, @ScottBrown has been inundated with people seeking @ScottBrownMA.

Here is one of the tweets by @ScottBrown about the flood of contacts:

Despite, or maybe because of, Martha Coakley's high profile as Massachusetts Attorney General, there doesn't seem to be any grassroots enthusiasm for her campaign. Coakley has a sense of entitlement, but Brown is experiencing a groundswell of support.

Coakley's Twitter account (@MarthaCoakley) has 1915 followers compared to 2322 for @ScottBrownMA.

Brown's Facebook page has 8689 fans versus 6255 at Coakley's Facebook page. The BrownBrigade online network has 2517 members; I could find nothing similar for Coakley.

Clearly, despite lower name recognition, less money, and without the powerful union and entrenched political interests behind him, Scott Brown is gaining momentum the new-fashioned way. Will there be enough time to translate this momentum into votes?

Spread the word, by voice, e-mail, Tweet, Facebook, whatever.

There is a chance to stop the abominable health care bill on January 19, by electing Scott Brown.

Scott Brown is on the spotlight because it is known that he appeared nude on Cosmopolitan in the eighties. Anyway, the big problem is that he is pro-abortion and a Rino. Maybe he would vote like the Maine twins, maybe a bit more conservative. Who knows...

The ad with JFK on tax cutting is getting a lot of coverage on the local Massachusetts news. Well done, Scott Brown. It’s not easy for a Republican to get ANY coverage in Massachusetts.

Listen, all you posters on this site that bemoan Scott Brown and his abortion stance better start getting it and fast. I feel the same way about his abortion position and, maybe even his RINO status as you do, but I also can see and grasp the big picture. Heck, good folks, you best wake up and realize that we are fighting for the life of freedom and our country. The country Obama and his Democrat ilk want to take us to is the country of government control and facism. Call it what you will, facism, socialism, communism, radical, cradle to grave manipulation, etc. Obama wants America to become the vision of his icon, America hater, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. And....if you don’t believe that then you have been drinking or smoking funny stuff. Now, Scott Brown is far from perfect, but he is both a man and symbol that can stop Obama and his Democrat buffoons, at least for a significant period of time. A Brown “win” in MA will shake American politics from A-Z. Wake up people of MA and get your butts in gear for Scott Brown. Vote for him on January, 19th and strike a positive blow for American freedom and independence from these liberal, left-wing people that could care less about America, her children and her future!!!!

Good analysis. There’s a lot more at stake right now than the social issues.

I’ve got a feeling that this election will be a surprise. People are really irritated at the cram-down legislative process the Dems are foisting on us and Obama’s numbers have cratered.

A bunch of Dems might just stay home Jan 19th, as might the Independents who are still leaning toward voting Dem (just because they, too, are a little bewildered at how Washington is going right now.)

Meanwhile, the Independents who expected a middle ground approach from Obama are disappointed at the far-left result they’re getting instead.

Being a special election, plus a low-key one in terms of the present national news coverage, turnout will be important, and turnout is easier to generate if people are motivated. Right now, it appears to me the motivation is going against Dems, as indicated in the recent NJ and VA elections.
