Nice! I was a bit rushed on the wife’s purchase, as we were in the market because her previous one (a Dell, that lasted many years) was broken.
Does it have XP or Linux?
My niece had her Toshiba laptop screen destroyed while it was warrantied. They sent a box and we mailed it to them. They sent a new laptop back.
Then they even reset the warranty!
yay Toshiba.
We have four Dells - I hate them!
Bought them because they were cheap, but they are not very reliable, and they are crude in most respects. Case covers break easily at the hinges, and that can doom the display.
I’ve always been a big fan of the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads from back in the 486 days. I’ve traveled quite a bit with them, and they’ve taken a lot of abuse from me, and kept on working. In fact, my T30 model, I dropped twice, while it was running. The system didn’t crash, kept running. The second drop took off the left front corner of the shell, but otherwise the thing is still ticking. I’ve also got a newer T61 15” widescreen that works great too. Running Linux right now.
Thats what I thought too. But I tried and they rejected it. Their Office wouldn’t open my file and my OO wouldn’t open their interactive Word docs.

Sony VAIO
Oh netbooks. lol. I didn’t know you could upgrade a netbook. I’ll stick with my Satellite.
The “T” model Thinkpads, or their other model lines? I have a T61 I’m quite pleased with.
lol.
Its not a Netbook. I totally missed that in your post.
Mine has Windows Vista Home Basic I think. Works okay to me. I bet if it had XP it would be rocking.
The best laptop/ desktop replacement I’ve found is the Dell Studio XPS. Since I can afford only one computer and it needs to last several years I just invested in one and I’m very happy with it. The last computer I had was a Dell Inspiron 8500 and I had it for six years IIRC; a good investment. YMMV.
I have been using WordPerfect X3 for several years, and have had no problem in file transfer with any other format ever.
And then there is the advantage that the crackers and hackers don’t seem to ever write malware to hit WP.
>Ive had bad experiences with HPs. Never again.
Same here. I truly HATE HP more than liberals. Have not and will not buy HP. Eevn if it comes down to the last 2 pc’s in the world, and the other laptop is far worse than HP, I would buy the worse’ laptop before I buy HP.
I have lost one Dell like this (lost a lot of Dells due to motherboard failures).
I’m surprized no one has mentioned Asus laptops. They are well made and don’t usually come with all the crapware. Check them out at newegg..
If this is for your own small business, and the laptop is an important part of the business, then I think the number one thing you need to be looking at is probably service. Can you get by for a few days if has to be shipped somewhere, or do you need (as in, is it worth paying for the peace of mind) someone to show up with parts wherever you happen to be the next day?
I strenuously disagree. The T40s were good (except the motherboards broke if you carried them the wrong way) but they are old and out of date.
My experience since Lenovo took over using T60 and T400 ThinkPads is that they are now crap.
I suggest a Toshiba or Dell if Windows is needed or MacBook if not.
Mine is the A305 model with 3GB RAM and the black finish called Fusion Finish. When I was laptop shopping I kept coming back to the Toshiba and hubby kept talking about how expensive they were compared to the others. I was patient and finally found this one on sale for $800. It’s been a great investment! It came with a 200GB hard drive, built-in card reader, webcam and wireless Internet. I’ve been very happy with it.
I have had three Toshiba laptops and they have all worked fine. Best keyboards around. I have literally worn the paint off of three of the keys since I use it almost exclusively at the kitchen table where I take my meals. Screen is beautiful. What’s to complain about? I did put a faster hard drive in which took all of two minutes but the original worked fine. Using Windows 7 on this one and it works great. My $0.02.
Mine is a lower-end monitor.
Mine is an L305 (Lesser 305?)
No webcam, on purpose- don’t even like looking in the mirror. Pentium Dual-Core 2GHz, 2 GB RAM.
So it was much cheaper than yours but I bought the warranty and stuff.
