I’ve had bad experiences with HPs. Never again.

I’m on my 4th Toshiba, had an early Compaq, an HP. Will probably stay with Toshiba forever. I keep them about 2-3 yrs, then pass them down to other family members.

I’m an IT Manager for a bunch of road warriors.
We had thinkpads years ago, but the new Lenova models are crap.
Currently we’re buying Sony Vaio ‘Z’ models. They are not cheap, but hold up well over the long haul, lightweight, decent performance.

Don’t just buy a name. Go to your electronics store, find the pimple-faced geek working the area, and ask them to show you the best bang for your buck ...
I always look for large hard drives, large screens and 4Gigs of RAM.
Good luck with your new endeavor.

LoL...i’m deciding between a sony Z and apple but so many friends and c0-workers were telling me to check out non sony stuff as well. I’m not that tech savy and was concern with learning how to use an apple. Compatibility issues are also a concern w/ apple for me as well as work uses pc only.

I’m taking an online course. It requires MS Office. Open Office is not compatible.

I had my hotel room broken into the other day & the only thing they took was the laptop. I ended up purchasing another MacBook Pro that evening. You’ll pay for it, but the build quality of the unibody MacBooks is impeccable.

Check out VMware Fusion for PC compatibility & Apple’s one-on-one training in the Apple Store to get started. The local Apple Store may be willing to migrate your PC data for you, for a nominal charge.

You could add a second gig of memory to most netbooks now, but probably not worth the bother. Once they get the memory and screen resolution up, however, the little netbooks are much more tightly made than regular laptops.
To: 9YearLurker
Mine came with 2GB, yay. I can add another I think too.
