French rock icon Johnny Hallyday is in a medically induced coma at a U.S. hospital as a result of an operation gone bad in France, according to the singer's handlers.

IN a US hospital? How can this be? The UN's WHO rated France's medical system "best in the world" in 2001. We are constantly told that Oh Canada is a model the US should aspire to. So where do big shots go to get their own medical care? Yeah... thought so.

In fairness he did not come to LA for his medical care. He had a disk operation on his neck by a “celebrity surgeon” who may have “botched” the operation. Hallyday flew to LA for business/personal reasons soon after the operation and then collapsed once there.

Only to point out that this is not a case of medical tourism - it’s a case falling ill while traveling.

He’s also a resident of Switzerland to avoid French taxes. Also un ami of President Sarkozy.

Fairness does not equal correctness.

Halliday came to the US to fix the problems caused by the French surgeon. His agent said:

“It seems the Americans fixed things that they found that were very badly done.”

Many many foreign rich and connected from countries with govt run medical systems come here to get fixed.

You’re just wrong in your conclusions. The quote you supply, while true, simply does not support your conclusion (or inference) that he came here for medical care. He did not. Yes the Americans fixed the previous problem, and yes they said that the French surgeon screwed up, but that was NOT the reason for the trip. Believe it or not, but that’s the way it went down.

Johnny’s illness has been cloaked in mystery since day one. He seems to have been far too ill to travel to LA for a business meeting, and was most likely flown to LA for more surgery, and medical treatment for infections contracted in a French Hospoitalk that did not respond to treatment.
