Knock It Off, Free Republic!
XenoHistoran ^ | 12/1/09 | XenoHistorian

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:21:09 AM PST by pissant

I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internet’s leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the “Rathergate” scandal, I thus became one of the “Pajamahadeen” that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.

Being a “Freeper” has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.

Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals don’t force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, I’m more concerned about Harry Reid’s Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?

Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess I’m going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. ’Bye, see you guys next year.

Now, we have to eliminate Romney before Obama tells his ACORN and SEIU goons to flood the GOP primaries with votes for Romney.

The erroneous assumption most people make, is that the state and national Republican establishment disapproves of the "moderating" influence, of open primaries.

They want leftist Democrats skewing the process. It's just another way to blunt the conservative influence of us yahoos in flyover country.

Mitt hasn’t supported abortion for atleast TEN years!

So? It shows he was willing to go against a core tenet of his Church to try and gain a political advantage.

IMO, someone who can do such should not be trusted.

Oh, and BTW, he came out as being pro-about in 2002 as well.

With the GOP doing nothing to stop open primaries and same-day registration in the Presidential primaries, Obama, running unopposed, will hand-pick whomever he wishes to run against in the general election.

Can't say it enough...New Hampshire democrats are looking forward to choosing the Republican presidential nominee for 2012...just like they did with McCain. They do this deliberately; and no one seems to care.

Romney is a Rino, but there are many more dangerous rinos that many on FR support every day. Romney gets hit because he’s mormon. I just wish he was more Mormon and less Rino. If Sarah Palin was a Mormon, she’d get the same treatment.

I very much agree with getting romney "off the front page", so to speak.

We have more important "fish to fry" (or islamosocialist muslims of which to rid ourselves).

IE

... as the status of the budget in Mass.

Name recognition is a powerful effect. How else do a inexperienced wife or son win the seat held by their Father/Husband?

Ridiculous.

We are too easily led.

Father help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.

I don't think so, whiner! Romney is no conservative and he deserves to be lambasted.

The “brain behind Romneycare” was the Heritage Foundation. Hardly a bunch of RINOs.

If Romney is the Republican nominee in 2012, we can expect four more years of Obama. The sooner he is out of the running, the better.

No need to embed the message on every thread. Anyone who's been here more than a day has seen the no-rino, anti-Romney, and anti-mormon threads. Believe me we all get it. On a scale of 1 to ten, minor nuisance, no class.

“Jim’s house. Jim’s rules.”

Very true!

But, people don't have to contribute to OLD news that is no longer accurate. Like any other DECEPTIVE, advertiser, I don't support them financially.

So keep the LYING and DECEPTIVE Mitt videos running! People will decide if they want to support a video done YEARS AGO that is NO LONGER ACCURATE about Mitt.

Mitt is PRO LIFE and PRO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT. He also DOES NOT SUPPORT the idea of allowing underage girls to get an abortion.

I am ashamed of this website resorting to such LOW, LIBERAL TACTICS. It used to be the FR wouldn't stoop to such a DEMOCRAT TACTIC.

You don't have to like Mitt. You can disagree with his health care but the DEEPTIVE video is a disgrace.

It’s called free speech, pissant. If you’re suddenly not in favor of that....well, then you’re not the conservative I previously thought you were.

He "comes out" being whatever is advantageous, politically, at the time. He has a long history of such expedience. Therefore, people who actually do have core principles, distrust and even dislike him. The shreiks of anti-Mormonism ring hollow. If Mitt Romney had been as socially conservative as his own church over time, he'd not be as reviled by conservatives as he has come to be.

Well reagan didn’t bend to the extent of creating a government health care system which was fiscally irresponsible. People are so mad right now I don’t think they want to elect Romney for that reason. I doubt he would repeat this as president and especially with a republican congress, but Romney took a step way far on the wrong side of the road.

People are pissed now. I don’t just mean conservatives or FR, the American people are frightened and majorly pissed.

If you oppose Obama with Romney, many will just say what’s the difference on the key issue? Obama can spend the whole campaign saying Romney did the same thing and Romney doesn’t want to admit he was dead wrong.

I’m not a Romney hater but we need someone else.
