Wal Mart does it again. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled in favor of the chain store. In 2005, the store in Jonquiree, Quebec was closed because of the recent union certification of the stores employees. This, of course, led to various court runs by the displaced employees of the store. At the end of 2005, the Quebec Labor Board ordered Wal Mart to compensate the former employees. (http://wakeupwalmart.com/facts/) Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada has seen fit to rule 4-3 in favor of the company. As usual

Unions are criminal organizations designed to steal from employees, employers and consumers.
Never give in to them Walmart! Never!
Libs are "Class A" hypocrites. Friend of mine for nearly 20 years, an avowed liberal/socialist, complains about WM. But he is unwilling to go to another store and pay 10% more to back up his views. WM is evil...yeah gimme more of that cheap stuff. He seems to see no contradiction in this.
Why how DARE Walmart—or indeed any business enterprise—wish to prevent a Marxist, criminal organization from gaining control over its operations? How DARE any business owner believe he should have the right to determine how his investment should be used and his business be run! How DARE a man with a huge investment believe he should have the authority to tell his employees what to do! And how DARE a business attempt to be profitable! Doesn’t Walmart understand that the only reasons for being in business are to provide healthcare, perks, overtime, days off, family leave, vacations, sick days, holidays off, birthdays off and most of all—the means for labor unions to donate millions to the democrat party??!! DAMN STINKIN’ CAPITALIST SWINE!! Lucky for us Obama is “saving or creating” so many jobs, pretty soon we won’t NEED any of these damned free market entrepreneurs!!
Just one of many reasons to admire Wal-Mart!
‘Former’ union worker in the ‘former’ steel industry just about sez it all.
Kudos to WM for not letting another business be destroyed by a union.
IIRC WM distributed $1 B as in Billion in profit sharing to their employees last year. Not too shabby for a company whose employees are so dreadfully ‘abused’.
I guess paying below a living wage is acceptable. I don’t condone everything the union does. Never have. I don’t believe that anyman is worth 35-40 dollars and hour. But I do believe that everyone should be able to make a wage that is able to cover a family’s bills. Walmart doesn’t. As far as my comment about destroying small busineses. I have seen businesses in this community, as well as others, that have been around for a century, close because they can’t compete with a company that the ability to by a bare bottom prices. And think about this, Walmart has stated their intentions to close Target, Kmart, Amazon and other retail outlets. Destruction of competition is their goal.
Are you crazy? You showed back up with THAT?
Why would anyone accept a job that is insufficient to pay their bills? I assume the small businesses you are so fond of would hire these folks at a much higher wage, right?
Actually Walmart has increased competition and lowered prices elsewhere. Especially with those 4 dollar prescriptions. Now their competitors are offering lower prices.
It has helped us out.
Are you sure you’re posting on the right forum? It sounds like you’re against the free market and in the tank for unions.
VirginiaMom
You don’t think someone who invested years of their life educating themselves to the point of becoming an expert in their field should earn a lousy $70-80K/year?
I’m guessing you have folks asking you for fries pretty often.
“So, I have first hand knowledge of Wal Marts anti union stance.”
It’s not just Wal-Mart that has an anti union stance.
Just about anyone who understands the destruction that is caused by socialism and socialist organizations has an anti union stance.
Screw unions.
People that enter the business world always want to beat their competition, otherwise, why bother?
People do not start a business for the purpose of hiring employees, paying benefits and getting taxed to death. People start a business and work to make a profit.
The bonus is when you are doing so well that you need to hire others. That means business growth has happened and jobs for other people.
“I guess paying below a living wage is acceptable.”
It is absolutely acceptable.
Whatever an employee agrees to accept from an employer is acceptable. There should be no outside interference in that transaction.
If you don’t like the wages offered, go work somewhere else. Nobody owes you a living.
Not every job is WORTH a “living wage”.
You sound like a Marxist.
Some businesses go under, others pop up when Walmart comes to town. Their presence does have its ups and downs. That’s life.
Can’t say I blame them for their anti-union stance. Unions today are destructive to companies and in the end, the employees.
Because the low price overcomes the “evil” Americans have a price for their concern......
First off, I’m a conservative (independent). Second, in alot of communities there is nothing but subpar wages. Isn’t it interesting, that here (Huntington), that one can make more an hour at McDonalds than at Walmart.
All I’m saying is that everyone (employed) deserves to be able to feed their family and pay their bills. As for the competition, I agree that there needs to be the free open market. As for making profit, I agree that is the reason for opening of a business. But most business owners to go out of their way to end the competition. Nor is it a main priority. But the fine folks in Bentonville seem to see it as their right to become the only retail outlet in the country. If you want to know what that will entail, ask a senior citizen that had to buy from a company store in minig areas. Once Walmart gets what it wants, by being the only rteail store in the country, where will the free enterprise system be?
So, I have first hand knowledge of Wal Marts anti union stance.
A stance shared by a majority of American workers.
Every man can earn a wage to cover a family’s bills if he so wishes. He’s not indentured to Walmart and is free to make as little or as much of himself as he desires.
What right does one have to demand that Walmart pay them for stocking shelves what another makes after having invested in education and training? Want to make a career of Walmart? You can, but it’s going to take you a good amount of time as well it should.
Walmart wants to close their competition? You think the mom and pops out there didn’t want to see theirs go away too?
If I’m not mistaken, Walmart is constantly changing strategies because Target and co. are giving them a good run.
