Fatherhood and Religion
Allie Winegar Duzett, November 11, 2009
Children benefit when fathers are involved in family life; religion encourages men to be more involved in family life, Dr. Richard Petts said at the Heritage Foundations recent conference, Religious Practice and the Family: What the Research Says.
Dr. Petts, an assistant professor of sociology at Ball State University, spoke on the impact of paternal religiosity on child development. Unfortunately, Dr. Petts noted at the conference, No studies have yet examined how [the] fathers religiosity may affect the lives of young children. Still, Dr. Petts finds it worthwhile to ask: Does a fathers religiosity affect early childhood behavior? How do fathers religious beliefs and affiliation influence early childhood behavior? Do fathers keep going to church later on in a childs life as they do when the child is young? Dr. Petts research was conducted largely on unmarried families from urban areasa key subset of families to examine.
The research we do have suggests that parental religiosity may be associated with positive outcomes for children, Dr. Petts said. Religion prepares men for the responsibilities of fatherhood, encourages men to be more involved in family life, and instills denominational values. According to Dr. Petts, churches give support to fathers that can help them give guidance and support to their children, and encourage fathers to be involved with family life....

Morals help to make good fathers. God helps to make good fathers. Lack either of the 2 and a kid is lucky to come out without a warped mind.
children ....and SOCIETY.....are better served with a mother and a father in one home.....
character and morals play a big part, and its a choice to follow both....
anyone think it was easy for our parents?....little pay, big families?...I remember my dad saying we went on vacation one year to the grandparents who lived a few hundred miles away...6 kids and mom in the station wagon......with $50 in his pocket!....( he even got a speeding ticket...lol...which he had to pay then and there....)....but somehow we always had a great time....
Blacks are the most religious group in America, yet the single parent rate is something like 70%
Evidence that ‘religious’ does not mean ‘good morals’.
