With Friends Like Right-to-Life, Who Needs Enemies?

I have my pro-life credentials. I’ve fought in the trenches, so shut-up.

Too many times while in the trenches, Right-to-Life national leaders have been there wiping out our side, handing victory to the pro-aborts.

Today, I lament and pray for and with Rep. John Shaddegg (AZ) who knew that if he could have received just a little bit of Right-to-Life’s cooperation, Pelosi’s health care bill would have gone down. Instead, Shaddegg got a Right-to-Life knife in the back.

The battle lost in the House over the government health care takeover rests in large part on the shoulders of the national Right-to-Life leaders. They are pinheads and they must resign now.

As the political dynamics tightened around the health care vote, liberal pro-aborts had to concede to a vote on the pro-life amendment in order to shave off enough pro-life democrats for victory. A bitter political pill for their side, but they saw the bigger victory and could spin the pro-life amendment as “just acknowledgement of existing law contained in the long-standing Hyde Amendment.” (Hyde Amendment = No federal funds for abortions)

Well, Shaddegg had a plan to throw sand in the gears and likely ruin the political machinery grinding out a victory for the government takeover of health care. He was rounding up the votes to kill the pro-life amendment (by voting “present”) and thereby killing the whole bill and quite possibly the entire effort. This would have caused such a train wreck, it is doubtful the liberals could have recovered, i.e., Waterloo.

But, NO ... as this plan was quietly being put together, Right-to-Life issues a noontime letter on the day of the vote stating a “present” vote will be scored as a NO vote, elevating it as the “most important vote” since the 1997 vote on the Hyde Amendment.

KABOOM! Right-to-Life once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. Good for Shaddegg being the lone “present” vote on the amendment.

This screw-up is so historic and monumental that the Right-to-Life leadership must take the honorable actions and resign, immediately.

Shaddegg has a 100% rating from Right-to-Life. He is not a mystery or a double-dealer. After all the work he has done on their behalf, a little help would have gone a long way.

Instead, it is clear ... Right-to-Life is more concerned about fundraising by “getting the win” on the pro-life amendment. How long do you think that amendment will hold as the bill makes its way through Congress?

Go away Right-to-Life leadership. Your actions are pitiful.

Hmmm let me guess RTL is a 501(c)3 or 4....

Probably have a place on "K" Street.

Steve Forbes was right Flat Tax to get rid of the Lobbyist which won in this deal with re-election payolla.

Until the tax code changes RTL may also be confused with what "K" street lobbyist are called.....

I have said this about them since the 2008 primaries. Instead of endorsing 100% pro-life candidates such as Duncan Hunter, Sam Brownback, Alan Keyes or Tom Tancredo, they spun a verbal abortion and endorsed Mr. 66% Fred switching to Mr. 66% McCain after Fred dropped out.

They are worthless and no one should consider their ratings/endorsements anymore.

I can’t tell you how many times the Right to Life organization has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (or is it the other way around)? When the Louisiana legislature in 1990 was trying to pass a pro-life bill WITHOUT exceptions, the RTL group, with the backing of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, was pushing its own bill WITH exceptions. Their efforts undermined the true pro-life bill, and gave a few marginal “pro-lifers” an out to vote for the exceptions bill.

My husband and I ran a pro-life clinic next door to a notorious abortionist, and we were having some reasonable success. A pro-life group working with the RTL picketed the clinic next door, which was a good thing to do. But instead of trying to work with us, they bad-mouthed our efforts because our clinic had some visits by the police on several occasions as a form of harassment.

We even told the picketers that if they needed to use our restroom facilities, please feel free. Their leader told them they couldn’t come into our clinic for any reason because there could be liability questions and they didn’t want to get caught in the cross-hairs.

Several years later, when the abortionist lay dying from an inoperable brain tumor, the picket leader went to his bedside to pray over him, which was a good thing to do.
But then she had the audacity to appear on a TV show and brag about her deathbed efforts with the abortionist and boasted that he told her that her group was the “good” pro-lifers. She had this big beoad smile on her face and took his comment as a compliment.

My husband always suspected that the NRTL is really an arm of Planned Parenthood because they seem to have more success for them than for us. In nearly 37 years, abortions have grown in numbers, and the poll numbers have slipped in the pro-abort’s favor. I don’t like them and I don’t trust them.

Not sure if this link will work but that decision was influenced by, along with the Cao vote (R-LA 25th) I truly believe came from this source. Once there To get to it click on print preview and go to page 6. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2381442/posts?q=1&page=51

I usually post remarks on current events in FR’s because my website (which is a one person ops and I don’t have the facilites (or the time really) for an interactive type of site.

I think it so significant that I am reposting and featuring it in my website

Why wasn't the Shadegg Plan kept hush-hush? Who told the RTL bastards? Imagine if no one knew and the GOP shocked the House by voting Present and dumping the bill. Pelosi and Hoyer would have FREAKED OUT and delayed the final vote. They would have had to go back to negotiations with the Blue Dogs all over again, and coupled with the illegal alien issue and Hispanic Caucus, we might have been able to scuttle the bill for weeks.

I agree 100%...RTL is a disgrace and must be CRUSHED. However, there were FReepers too who were guilty yesterday, running posts saying it would be "electoral suicide" to vote present. They bear some responsibility too.

Yep. I was there in the thick of it last night. A handful of the brainless. We could have stopped healthcare last night. We could have brought blue dogs on board, at least 6 of them. That would have done it. If Republicans are really this stupid, it's truly time for a new party. Let McCain and the retards have it. We need a Free Republic party with an IQ check at the door.

Over the past week or so I’ve been debating some pro lifers over this type of stance, namely that if someone isn’t exactly as fanatical as they like then they consider those others to be ‘pro-abortion!

That is ridiculous and terribly misleading.

And here, as you pointed out, that attitude by RTL may have been the stake thru the heart of our republic.

And, btw, for anyone that wonders about me, find the story of the closed clinic in Pensacola. I’ve stood outside that clinic more than once with other protesters and am glad to see it closed.

I can't believe our Republican reps are this stupid. This kind of thing leads to thoughts of conspiracy. Truly. Did they ever really want to defeat healthcare? They knew the way and refused the go there. Unbelievable. I am so disgusted with my own Republican rep. And I'm disgusted with this board. Where was the information on the amendment? The whole thing was hushed up. I made NO CALLS to my rep to tell him to vote no on the abortion amendment. I didn't know to do it. I think it would have made a difference.

That visit to the deathbed thing is just weird. Do the RTL people have Stockholm Syndrome, that they are so drawn to their enemies?
I used to be involved with Democrats for Life, some years ago. It was their view that NRTL would be lost and upset if Roe v. Wade ever was overturned. Too many people over there have been making their paychecks on opposing it for too long. They are invested in the lobbying process itself, not the victory.

In Oregon, the Right to Life organization actively promoted Ron Saxton for Governor.

Saxton self-identifies as “pro-choice”.
