I can’t tell you how many times the Right to Life organization has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (or is it the other way around)? When the Louisiana legislature in 1990 was trying to pass a pro-life bill WITHOUT exceptions, the RTL group, with the backing of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, was pushing its own bill WITH exceptions. Their efforts undermined the true pro-life bill, and gave a few marginal “pro-lifers” an out to vote for the exceptions bill.

My husband and I ran a pro-life clinic next door to a notorious abortionist, and we were having some reasonable success. A pro-life group working with the RTL picketed the clinic next door, which was a good thing to do. But instead of trying to work with us, they bad-mouthed our efforts because our clinic had some visits by the police on several occasions as a form of harassment.

We even told the picketers that if they needed to use our restroom facilities, please feel free. Their leader told them they couldn’t come into our clinic for any reason because there could be liability questions and they didn’t want to get caught in the cross-hairs.

Several years later, when the abortionist lay dying from an inoperable brain tumor, the picket leader went to his bedside to pray over him, which was a good thing to do.
But then she had the audacity to appear on a TV show and brag about her deathbed efforts with the abortionist and boasted that he told her that her group was the “good” pro-lifers. She had this big beoad smile on her face and took his comment as a compliment.

My husband always suspected that the NRTL is really an arm of Planned Parenthood because they seem to have more success for them than for us. In nearly 37 years, abortions have grown in numbers, and the poll numbers have slipped in the pro-abort’s favor. I don’t like them and I don’t trust them.

That visit to the deathbed thing is just weird. Do the RTL people have Stockholm Syndrome, that they are so drawn to their enemies?
I used to be involved with Democrats for Life, some years ago. It was their view that NRTL would be lost and upset if Roe v. Wade ever was overturned. Too many people over there have been making their paychecks on opposing it for too long. They are invested in the lobbying process itself, not the victory.
