U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, now a Republican candidate for governor, this morning declared himself in sympathy with those questioning whether President Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A.
The occasion was an online chat the congressman had with supporters this morning. And the question came from Tom Crawford of Capitol Impact.
Do you believe that Barack Obama is a native-born American citizen who is eligible to serve as president? I am asking because your comments on this issue have been a little ambiguous. I would appreciate your clearing this up.
At 9:17 a.m., Deal tapped out this:
I am joining several of my colleagues in the House in writing a letter to the President asking that he release a copy of his birth certificate so we can have an answer to this question.
This is a new position for Deal. Back in August, my AJC colleague Aaron Gould Sheinin asked much the same question. This was the response he received from Deal campaign spokesman Harris Blackwood:
“He began receiving letters and e-mails about this long before the president took office. He has maintained in response to each one that he believes the president was born in the state of Hawaii two years after it became a state, is an American citizen and therefore is fully qualified to be president of the United States.”
“Awkward” will not describe the next meeting to discuss water negotiations between Deal and U.S. Rep. John Lewis.
In a subsequent Twitter message, Deal declared his online chat to be a “huge success.” And attempting to sweep up the birthers may not hurt him in a Republican primary. But it doesn’t polish Deal’s credentials as a general election candidate.

This is not a unreasonable thing to ask for since being a "natural born citizen" of the US is a constitutional requirement for the job of President. It's not hateful, and it's not racist.
Proving that you are should be an honor.
Yet will not produce either. Why?
The longer it goes without him doing this, the more insistent the demands for it will become. Obama cannot hide from proving his constitutional qualification once people in any numbers seriously doubt it.
BTW, under what conditions and with what financial aid did Obama attend college? And when he traveled to Pakistan while in college, under what conditions and what passport did he use to do so? Again, relatively simple things to put to rest...but they have not been put to rest. To the contrary, they've been covered up.
Reasonable people begin to wonder why.

You know Jeff, the easiest way to solve this is to start up the “Obama presidential Library” and ‘honor his birthplace’...
Isn’t it strange that his supporters haven’t done so?? Clinton had his practically built before he took office...but NOT a peep of such an honor by Obama’s supporters. Indeed, reasonable people ask....Why???

Odds are better than even that Deal’s promise will be quietly forgotten.
I am sure the Tax courts will slam them down, but people having troubles with the IRS might consider using the “no legal authority” defense and saying the President is illegitimate or at the very least, if he doesn’t have to show his papers, why should I?
cool. I think he just moved up my list for primary support. Is his house seat in a “secure” district? Is there a strong conservative who has tossed in his/her name?
The question posed to Deal was loaded ... ‘native born’ is what Barry said of himself, as if just being born on U.S. soil is all that is required. Liars are often very adept at dissembling, as we see every day from a list of obamanoids on any birther thread.
Please join me in writing a quick “thank you” to Congressman Deal for this effort.

Yep, you’re exactly right and after he has gotten a lot of attention and conversation going, they’ll whip out the Hawaii birth certificate and say, “See, we told you he was a citizen.” And that will end the natural born question for the majority of people. Anyone who carries it on will be mocked and ignored.
The fraud is what should be the focus. Experts pointed out that COLB posted online was not from Hawaii.

He MAY or MAY not be a "native born" citizen, but he can never be "natural born" citizen -- unless he had an American father, we don't know about.
