Paganism On The Rise: The NYT Celebrates
Unspun America ^ | October 30, 2009

The New York Times has an interesting article today. Apparently, Paganism is growing, and that's just fine, at least according to the NYT.

Paganism has always been seen as the "alright religion" by the left. It's hip, cool, different. Not at all like those stuffy christians.

"In several ways, though, Paganism was waiting for modernity to catch up with it. The emphasis on the worship of nature in virtually all variations of Pagan faith, and the embrace of a female divinity in many, situated the religion to mesh with the environmental and feminist movements that swept through the United States in the 1970s."

The emphasis on the worship of nature in virtually all variations of Pagan faith, and the embrace of a female divinity in many, situated the religion to mesh with the environmental and feminist movements that swept through the United States in the 1970s."

So while progressive activists try to cut the tax exempt status of Christian churches nation wide, churches that do more charity work than any other group in the country, they at the same time fight for it for the "alright religion."

Does the New York Times point out any of the problems with this? No, instead it pushes a very positive view of pagans as an oppressed group, finally coming into their own.

God’s judgement is on the way - maybe already here.

Germany in the mid-19th to early 20th century embraced new age, neo-paganism and all it got them was the Nazis.

Don’t you kinda worship nature in every religion? I mean, I know human nature is corrupt and earth is no paradise in Christianity. But we are supposed to appreciate the beauty and order of the natural world. It is how we see the Lord “through a glass darkly”.

In summation, pagans do not corner the market on “nature worship”.

Hmmm. Maybe our feminists will go back to the Greek orgies where they ripped young men apart limb from limb...oh, I forgot, they’ve got abortion to do that for them.

Abortion, the sacrament of paganism.

I was having a debate with a LIB on twitter yesterday and she said she thought Obama was more Paganism, than Socialist or Marxist. So I know for a fact that idea is spreading fast. I am sure they are looking for an ideology that seems a little better then Socialism or Marxism

Not in the same way that pagans do. The creation is honoured in Christian cirlces exactly because it is ‘created’ by the One True God not because it is some how holy of itself or is our mother.

Christians worship the creator not the creation!

Cheers

The support it except for one specific case. Dan Halloran is a Theodish priest and is running for city council in the 19th district. His opponent, Kevin Kim, is a Protestant and the local paper, the Queens Tribune, (started by Congressman Ackerman) ran a hit piece on Halloran's religion. The NY Times would be screaming bloody murder, except for the fact that Halloran is a Republican.

Only the ignorant can call paganism cool. Christianity has done more for women than anything or idea in the history of mankind.

Pagan 'religion' is the dregs of human nature - not it's most righteous moments.

I read the article in the NYT and was disturbed at how matter of fact the author reported his story. I remember a few years ago talking to missionaries from our church who were working in Great Britain. They said their greatest difficulty was not apathy or atheism but paganism! It seems that there are numerous people in the British Isles who believe in earth deities and female goddesses. This all has to do with the emasculation of the Christian church in Europe which has led to the elevation of nature religions. It makes me sick to think that a pagan, followers of religions expressly denounced in the Bible, would lead a state assembly in Wisconsin of all places. It is creepy.

Paganism is such a broad term and encompasses so many different forms and objects of worship that it is important to identify what sort of paganism is involved. It seems to me that the author is talking about a form of nature worship or pantheism. Many feminists eventually adopted Eco-Feminism, which is the worship of Mother Nature and the Feminine. I would not be surprised to see it development into some form of fertility cult. It would give sexual promiscuity a sense of the divine.
The advantages of Nature Worship are that there are no Ten Commandments, and that there is no Judgment Day. There is no heaven, and there is no hell. There is only nature. Nature has no moral code. It is survival of the fittest. It is the rule of the fang and the claw. Since anything that exists in nature is natural, everything is permissible. What the liberals want is to live in society based upon Judeo-Christian ethical protections, but they want to deny the Author of those protections.
