The very symbol of the freedoms we enjoy in America is represented by the Statue of Liberty. However, after 123 years, one gets the impression that her birthday aint much to celebrate! NOTE: The author of this comic requests that you visit his web site and please refrain from copying this cartoon within this thread. Thanks!
If these walls could talk...imagine the layers of federal bureaucracy she’s seen heaped upon the land of liberty since she arrived!
125 years should be a big one...if that doesn’t happen I would be concerned....
If Lady Liberty could walk she’d leave.....
Hussein's sure to be busy two years from today...most likely golfing, fundraising and talking to General Al Franken,Commander of Coalition Forces in Afghanistan, for two or three minutes.
of course, you must remember that she’s French :)
Hey, don’t knock the French. They saved our butts in our revolution and we saved theirs more than once, and they were very gratefull.
The French 125 years ago were not the same as today. Same as Americans here in this country, sadly.
"Will you people of America," she pleads, "forget what made you free?"
"Or will you, once again, unleash the power of Liberty?"
"Unbind me," crys the Lady, as she holds the golden flame,
"For the world is lost in darkness except they know my name."
Ah, Liberty, Sweet Liberty, we hear, we hear your call.
We hasten to retrace our steps and give to you our all,
As did two hundreed years ago your Fathers on this earth--
The brave, the wise, the learned ones who gave to you your birth.
Through their love and dedication and struggle to be free,
They searched and found the secrets that men were meant to see;
And now the foes of freedom have gradually bound you down,
And have hid from us your message and have changed your words around.
Yet, although we are the children of another age and day,
We will not now forsake you nor give your rights away.
Two hundred years ago brave men died to give you birth:
They pledged their sacred honor for Liberty on earth.
With firm reliance on the One from Whom all blessings came,
They did ordain and establish your strong and wondrous name.
Through their glorious Constitution they bound their government down
So that your sweet blessings could be secured and everywhere abound.
How fitting and how proper that in your great hour of need
We, now, are called to celebrate their truly marvlous deed--
The American Constitution--their gift to each of us,
To secure our rights, unite our land, and to bring us happiness.
It, too, must be unfettered and restored, along with you,
For other forces would erode its strength and beauty too.
Now, in its Bicentennial, we vow that we will strive
To give our best devotion to keep you both alive.
America, America, God grant His grace to thee,
That once again enlightened by the light of Liberty,
Thy children may be free, indeed, as by Thy light they see
The principles of truth and right which made this nation free! - LaVaughn G. Lewis (Copyright 1985)
No she wouldn’t. The flame may not be burning as ferociously as it once was. But the flame and embers are still burning. In your heart and mine.
A tender reed He will not break, a dimly burning light He will not Quench. Isaiah 42:3
Let’s enjoy it while it’s here, before Obama decides to send it back to France.
He’ll more than likely melt the copper outer sheath it’s made from and make lot’s of pennies for all of the kiddies.
MMMMM MMMMMM MMMMMMMMM
