Palin financial disclosure may explain timing of her resignation
Texas for Sarah Palin ^ | Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 3:00 PM | Josh Painter

Sarah Palin's financial disclosure, which was publicly released this morning, may help explain the timing of her resignation as governor of Alaska. According to reporting by Sean Cockerham of McClatchy Newspapers, the former governor had to take out a loan to pay her attorneys for legal work in her defense from a series of bogus "ethics" complaints filed by her political enemies:

Palin is also reporting that she took out a home loan from Wells Fargo for "legal fees to fight false allegations while governor." She didn't give a date or amount.
One of the last of the complaints filed against Palin charges that the legal defense fund which was set up to pay Palin's legal bills is itself not legal under Alaska law. That complaint was filed with the knowledge that the fund would be frozen while it was being investigated, therefore forcing her to pay her lawyers out of her own pocket. The aim of her political opponents has always been to destroy Sarah Palin any way they can. So they staged an all-out assault not only on her character and her family, but on her personal finances as well.

According to reports, the twenty or so complaints had driven Palin's legal bill over the $600,000 mark. That's a considerable sum of cash for a governor with an annual salary of $125,000 to lay her hands on, so she was forced to borrow the money. Wizbang's Jay Tea (h/t: C4P) explains:

"...she had run up about half a million dollars in legal bills, and pretty much every single complaint had been tossed. In other words, she had incurred debts equal to twice her family's net income and 40% of their net worth for absolutely nothing..."

Saw this earlier today.
Question: as a private citizen, why did Palin have to file a financial disclosure?

Those b*st$$ds ran her into the ground financially because they fear her. If I hear or read one more person saying she quit and it reflects badly on her I’m going to...be very angry with them.

nuvista, she was required by law to file the disclosure since the previous filing only covered the period ending December 31, 2008. Since the effective date of her resignation was July 26, 2009, the law required that she file a disclosure covering her final seven months as governor, from Jan. 1 to July 26.

If Sarah Palin is so irrelevant, why do they put forth so much effort?

It's not just the money. As the governor she was a sitting duck. She couldn't retaliate, she had to let the process run it's course. The cards were all in the hands of her well-organized (aka Democrat-party operatives) detractors.

As a private citizen, she can sue for libel and slander and seek injunctions and damages, even if her position as a public figure makes the eventual victory questionable.

She had to leave office to obtain a safe position from which to communicate.

Dumb ass leftists, they wanted to destroy her life so badly. Run her into bankruptcy, with 5 children and a grandchild..absolutely DISGUSTING..but at the end, Sarah had the last laugh, she is more powerful now then she would have ever been if she had completed her role as Governor. God Bless Sarah Palin for continuing to speak out for US. I hope the bastards that tried to bring her down burn in hell..yeah I said it

Not quite "for absolutely nothing" though. She did it to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against domestic enemies, those motivated by pure evil and a desire to replace freedom with a socialist state in which they control the means of production and everything else in our lives. Preserving freedom is something special, and I admire Sarah Palin for willingly paying that high a financial price to protect our freedom.

Notice how the practice of law is used by the left to strip standing from those they oppose. See why Mao's MO is relevant to understand. Sarah is micro to what they have intentions to do to and with US nationally.

She had to file through the remainder of her time as a public official only and that is what she did.

Correct.
May those incredibly evil people get their just deserts from God, for what they tried to do to this woman.
