I don't dare comment here; I may unwittingly offend.

I never unwittingly offend anyone. I do it on purpose.

I may wittingly offend or at least half- wittingly!

How do you interact with people from different races and ethnicities in the office? Have you ever found yourself complimenting a Black person on her ability to articulate well? Did you tell a Latino coworker that you were surprised he didn't have an accent? Do you think an Asian-American coworker is in an accounting position because "they're all skilled at math"? Have you ever said "you people" when referring to members of a different race and ethnicity?

Have you ever praised a white man for his open-mindedness and sensitivity?

No, but our Vice-President has!

I don’t know whether its that I’m getting older or maybe it’s the whole boatload of crap coming out of Washington these days, but I find myself having less and less patience with this Bull-sheetrock. As always the article makes no mention of how a white male might be offended.

I just wish we could close HR. The most useless department in any company and the source of this kind of BS in trying to justify their jobs.

I think a lot of Americans are sick of hearing how their country, their culture, their religion, and everything else about them is somehow evil, ignorant or otherwise “a negative influence” on society.

I’d like to see the shoe on the other foot - and people worried about offending US!

Do you need diversity training?

Have you ever said, “That is a puny plan”, to someone who is height challenge?.

Have you ever said, “That is a way phat idea, dude”, to a person of size?

Have you ever asked someone with a wandering eye if they need some help because they look confused.

Have you ever said, Her bark is worse than her bite, about some ugly copier jockey?

Have you ever asked a cranky winged-waitress, It’s that time isn’t it, referring to the seat-belt light when it is time to land?

Have you ever asked the Congressional Black Caucus, Do y’all need a flashlight ‘cause it be a little dark in here, after a fuse has blown and the lights are out?

I could go on...

Apparently this is aimed exclusively to white folks.

If someone gets offended if I talk about my wife at work, maybe that is a sign THEY need some diversity training.

"[if people] say 'husband' or 'wife' and don't make provisions for 'partner' or 'spouse.'

I do not require diversity training because unlike our politically correct human resources professionals, I know precisely what “diversity” is: a condition, not a value. As your employer, I do not care what color your skin is, what your gender is, or where you came from, as long as you can speak the language, wear clean clothes, shower more than weekly, and do your job to a minimum standard of proficiency. Any additional requirement is most likely a form of intimidation by the state for the purpose of procuring unearned benefits.

Your article links to 5 Things NEVER to Say to Muslim Coworkers. The money quote:

Only about 20 percent of Muslims worldwide are Middle Eastern. "Muslims are Black. Muslims are white. Muslims are senators - they're in the White House," says Chebli.
