If he put the TV on and saw the balloon he KNEW that there was no way his son could be onboard. The basket tht would hold a passenger was NOT attached. Doubtful it ever was attached.
To allow the country to be petrified for the safety of the child was inexcusable.

The family released video showing that it was MOM and DAD who let the balloon go. Dad does a countdown and then has a "tantrum" because mom let go altogether instead of just letting it go up a bit.
