If he put the TV on and saw the balloon he KNEW that there was no way his son could be onboard. The basket tht would hold a passenger was NOT attached. Doubtful it ever was attached.
To allow the country to be petrified for the safety of the child was inexcusable.

He got that from listening to Coast to Coast with George Noory. It's a problem when some loony-tunes actually BELIEVE these ridiculous stories. Like with the Art Bell/Hale-Bopp comet/Heaven's Gate/Raelians/suicide thing that happened several years ago. Art Bell was whipping up a comet frenzy almost every night. When the members of the cult were then found dead, Art Bell realized that he had made a grave error. So he brought his mother on to the show, to try and salvage his reputation. Not to mention all the Y2K hysteria that he was directly responsible for.
