Two Republican and all but one Democratic member of the Illinois U.S. Congressional delegation voted to make transgenders a new protected class in federal law last Thursday. Republicans Mark Kirk and Judy Biggert, as well as Democrats Melissa Bean, Jerry Costello, Danny Davis, Bill Foster, Luis Guitierrez, Debbie Halvorson, Phil Hare, Bill Lipinski, Mike Quigley, Bobby Rush and Jan Schakowsky voted for H.R. 1913, tucked within a larger difficult-to-oppose Defense Authorization bill. Eagle Forum explained:
H.R. 1913 makes a hate crime a crime in which the victim is intentionally selected based on his or her race, religion, ethnicity, or gender a federal offense. This legislation also establishes homosexual and transgender persons as a protected class of victims by adding the words "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" to Title 18 of the U.S. criminal code. Back in April of this year, the House passed this legislation as a stand-alone bill, but in July, the Senate attached it as an amendment to the defense authorization.
Those opposing the special protections were Congressmen Peter Roskam, Aaron Schock, John Shimkus, Tim Johnson, and Don Manzullo. One Democrat, Jesse Jackson Jr voted against the measure."Not only does this hate crimes legislation have no place in a defense measure, especially during a time of war, but House liberals explicitly refused to extend special protected status to military personnel in committee and through a Republican motion on the floor while the stand-alone bill was being debated back in April," said Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly. Forcing Members of Congress to choose between our troops and opposing the Left's radical social engineering policy is truly despicable," said Schlafly. "Of course, we can't forget about the Senate Democrats who made matters worse with their underhanded maneuver that attached the hate crimes text to the Defense Authorization in the first place." Eagle Forum commends those Members who voted NO on hate crimes all the way down to the very last vote," concluded Schlafly. "Many of these Congressmen have never opposed a defense bill, until last Thursday. It was a tough decision that took a lot of guts, and their principled stance won't go unrecognized."
If freepers want to stop this liberal RINO from becoming Olympia Snowe's new boyfriend in the Senate, I strongly suggest they take a look at the candidacy of Dr. Eric Wallace, Ph.D., who is running against Congressman Kirk in the primary for U.S. Senate.
Ah yes, the Oath-breaker Kirk. No suprise there.
Honestly, what did you want him to do? Vote AGAINST the defense authorization bill? It sucks that the democrats tucked this disgusting piece of legislation into it, but I think keeping our troops safe should be priority one. Hopefully we can get this rider stripped out later.
Well, that's all the other Republicans in the Illinois delegation did. As the article notes: "Many of these Congressmen have never opposed a defense bill, until last Thursday. It was a tough decision that took a lot of guts, and their principled stance won't go unrecognized. Those opposing the special protections were Congressmen Peter Roskam, Aaron Schock, John Shimkus, Tim Johnson, and Don Manzullo."
Only 44 Republicans in the house supported this bill.
You also don't seem to understand Kirk's record. He's not voting for special rights for "transgendered americans" because he "has to" to get a defense bill passed. Kirk agrees with the promoting "alternative lifestyles" to begin with, and could care less about "protecting our troops". This is the RINO who opposed the surge in Iraq and voted against the defense of marriage act. He'd support "transgender rights" with or without a defense bill attached to it.
Since Rep. Kirk is in his fifth term, he’s had plenty of time to propose a bill that states that each future bill will only have one subject. That would save millions of dollars, each year, since many earmarks are added at the end of popular, major bills. However, he doesn’t care about being fiscally or socially conservative.
There have been a couple ‘transgendered’ Republican candidates. Some “gal” in Vermont that ran against Bernie Sanders a couple times. And a black “gal” that actually got elected to the MA state house once and lost about a dozen other races over the years.
You don’t think Kirk.......? I want to see his birth certificate. ;D
Kirk should guest star on the cartoonish ‘Nip/Tuck’ to get the procedure.
