In The End It Was President Obama Who BLEW the Olympic Sales Pitch
White House/The Lid/Rush Limbaugh ^ | 10/2/09 | The Lid

Part of the speculation about why Chicago didn't get the Olympics is that maybe the President wasn't at his best, after all he doesn't have a lot of experience in saying good things about the United States. But there is no worry, the president didn't have to say anything nice, what he said is he wanted the Olympics because America needed to repair its Image because of what was going on during the past few years, a code for "We Suck Because of George Bush."

He blew it just by going over there and opening his mouth. Look what happens here when he does it ....

By odd happenstance, I was up late last night, and watched the Obama presentation to the IOC on live Chicago tv (link/live thread was posted here at FR). It was embarassing and absolutely infuriating.

The last thing Obama said/did was once again smack the US/Bush. Someone might want to find/post the last few minutes of the O presentation @ 3a EDT. I’m not that tech savvy.

A Danish Olympics official laid the loss squarely on Obama. In so many words he said it was arrogance, thinking that just by showing up, making a cameo appearance, O would win the Games for Chicago.

For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of the IOC.

Cheers!

it was stupid of them to push it....but I think there must have been other reasons they went.....maybe just "look how powerful we are...we can spend millions anyway we want"...

Am I the only person in the country that thinks its high time a South American city got the games?....I can't recall another Olympics that far south....anyone know?

Good point. To me it felt like Chicago politicians trying to “offer a deal the IOC could not refuse”. Having a head of state go to the IOC came across as threatening and reeked of imperialism and snobbish elitism. The same type of attitude that Obama has been apologizing for for the past 8 months.

No matter what result Chicago got, Obama was going to hurt Euro-American relations.

For the record, no South American nation has ever hosted any Olympics. North America has hosted 12 total, 6 summer; USA 4, Mexico and Canada each one.

Some are talking about how dangerous Chicago is, but Rio de Janeiro is has 4 times more murders than Chicago. I don’t think violence is an issue. An event such as the olympics would definitely create employment and benefit both small and big businesses. I’ve seen it happen in SLC 2002.

“In 2006, 2,273 people were murdered in the city giving it a murder rate of 37.7 cases for every 100,000 people.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_de_Janeiro#Crime

“In 2008, murders rebounded to 510 to lead the country, breaking 500 for the first time since 2003.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Chicago#Crime

I think a major obstacle which stands in the way of hosting the World Olympics is requirements for foreign visitors. Finger prints, photographs, registration are some requirements if you live in certain countries. This is all because of policies put in place by the Bush Administration. Extreme security and requirements are not inviting to the rest of the world.

if there's anything that would put the IOC under scrutiny it would be chosing Chicago and even more so after the Oprama's lame presentation.

NEWS FLASH

Thirty bakeries have closed and Little Debby has laid of hundreds of employees as the OB White House has issued a proclamation placing ALL DANISH PASTRIES off limits for government employees.
Other recent proclamations include banning of texting while driving government vehicles or using government issued cell phones.

Actually, this SLAP IN OB’s face is the most spectacular news to come out of Copenhagen since George became Christine Jorgensen.

Maybe Brazil doesn’t have a naecissist pre_sent who thinks that just by showing up gives him the win.

Why would the IOC want to reward a country that the CIC claims was always wrong and sucked before he took over?

Not to mention the fact that Michelle ma Belle said she sat on her daddy’s lap while watching Carl Lewis in the Olympics.

How many 23 year old girls sit on daddy’s lap to watch TV?

So what's stopping Zero from rescinding these policies?

BTW, welcome to FR. I'm afraid your stay will be short and the ride bumpy, unless you stop spreading propaganda for Zero.
