I like home-remedies.

It worked for me when nothing else would, including Lortabs.

My mom used to use that on us when we were kids.

Seriously.

I don’t think we got to swallow it though, and it was more like a teaspoon than a shot. But it does work.

Can you imagine a parent doing that today? They’d probably string you up!

Of course she served us coffee for breakfast too... :)

For non-recovering alcoholics, it’s perfectly reasonable to like a few drinks.

I always thought Anbesol tasted suspiciously like Laphroig Scotch.

Must I wait for a toothache?

I hope they find that bourbon is similarly effective for a liverache.

For coughs, take a tablespoon of honey & a tablespoon of rye. It does work. For cuts that are slow to heal, put a drop of honey on it & cover with a bandaid. Works like a miracle. I can’t use Neosporin type creams so I started using honey instead. Heck, I had some poison ivy blisters that would NOT heal, kept honey slathered on the area for a couple of days & it didn’t even scar (& I scar easily).

Good for snake bits also.

Helps to have some in the system before getting bit.

No hunting camp after sunset should be without some.

Never know when you’ll be attacked on the way to the outhouse.

I had a friend several years ago who developed a toothache on a Saturday and didn’t want to go look for emergency treatment. Someone told him about this little remedy and he decided to try it, even though he had a history of serious binge drinking. He went to the ABC store (liquor store in NC), bought a half gallon of Jim Beam and wasn’t seen for three days. When he finally came home his wife threw him out and the dentist wouldn’t treat him because he was still so drunk. As far as I know that was the last time he ever took a drink, for any reason.

The only thing that cures my headaches pronto is a shot of whisky.

This is only effective if the patient uses the bourbon.

My mother once related to me the story of her brother going the dentist; the dentist, as it turns out, was quite drunk.

In his unsteadiness, he drilled through my uncle's tongue.

Ouch.

Not sure if it was bourbon or rye, though.

Same remedy works for heart trouble - you know, a broken heart.

It also boosts charm level and improves singing ability.

May cause mood swings. I love you guys. Stop looking at my wife!

Alcohol is an excellent anesthetic. In rare instances in veterinary medicine, an alcohol block will inactivate a nerve for months and in some cases permanently. Alcohol near a nerve in the mouth will anesthetize the area for hours.

I also use extra virgin olive oil on facial areas prone to wrinkling. Before bedtime, pat on a little olive oil then blot off the excess. I’ve been told I look younger than my 53 years. Basically, I use EVOO as a moisturizer on my arms and legs, too (blotting off excess). I guess if the scent of olive oil bothers you, add a few drops of an essential oil.
